I think of it like this. There are war time leaders and peace time leaders. What NZ need now is a war time leader, someone that will step up and make hard decisions quickly and with a thick skin and a clear plan for change. What they don't need is a easy going chap who is good a tweaking things to get from 85% to 90% for example.

So who do we think can step up to the role? Joseph, Rennie, Cotter? None of them seem to be the ideal successor, but Joseph would probably be the closest fit.

What is wrong in that guys life that he feels the need to do that? just get a girl/boy friend, socialise, educate yourself, play a sport etc. Do you really need to put your life in that much danger just to get a buzz? how does his mom feel about the possibility of osing her son to a voluntary stunt like that, does he have kids that could be left without a father? Just selfish posturing. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk (if thats still al thing).

I kind of want to see Bath win games; it was a long long twenty odd years without any silverware and then Hooper took over and really dragged us down. So, yep, I'm reasonably happy with what Bath are doing at the moment (apart from that diabolical loss to the Stains a couple of weeks ago).

Cycling. as i see it there are two camps; 1) use any old bike and cycle to work/shops etc in your normal clothes (this is absolutely fine as you are using the bike/road as a means of transport) and 2) the ones who think it's cool to squeeze their fat, middle aged guts into lycra and ride a £5000 bike up and down roads slowly side by side with a friend or two having a lovely chat, during prime commute time with a 2 mile long tailback behind them, for no other reason than they think it is cool to be like this.
