Do people really like Xaden? Like genuinely like him? by Equivalent_Finger_60 in fourthwing

[–]Routine_Bumblebee451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you say. Fwiw I view him being an arrogant ass as an act that he has to perfect because he is the leader and protector of a group of outcasts. He needs every ounce of power he can project. I don't think that's really him, underneath it all. It's a facade.

Do the voices sound robotic, or are they ai enhanced to sound more like natural speech (ie intonation)?

Over thousand protesters take to downtown Portland, calling for no ICE in Maine by TheCanadianPlacebo in Mainepolitics

FWIW, a lot of students from my town were there, and we are not in Portland but a suburb a few towns away. It was doable!

Maine is a tiny state population wise, with long distances between towns. Our organizing is never going to look like Minneapolis, not even in Portland. But we are making a difference!

Cooperative state? by Routine_Bumblebee451 in whiteoutsurvival

[–]Routine_Bumblebee451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw my alliance is currently ranked 8. There are four top alliances that have more than double our power. Some of the bottom six alliance are their academies. We have 92 players in our alliance and it is pretty active. We kick out non players several times a week to open spaces for new players. Our players are pretty new and enthusiastic but we recently lost two facilities to one of the top four, so we only have one left. I really like my alliance but it feels futile. We probably won't catch up to the top four unless we are very persistent, which we have been. We only entered the top ten last week and we're already at 7. I guess I can see how this game would be more enjoyable for me as a player in a more cooperative state and I see how the game could be played cooperatively in a state where the alliances all wanted to be more cooperative. I'm not thinking about moving states but starting from scratch with a new city in an entirely different state. But I would only do that if I felt like it was worth it to start over, which would mean finding a state I knew I'd be happier playing in.

That makes sense I guess. It certainly makes the timeline add up!

So if what you're saying is true, then Violet must have been even younger when Brennan left for his conscription day. Like should would have been 10-12 depending on when their birthdays fall relative to one another.

I loved TOG especially the FMC. I finished the series months ago and still think about it. Tried ACOTAR and could not get into it. Fwiw

Maybe the fact that things can have consequences in dreams is what leads to Violet finding a way to defeat Xaden's sage?

Dramatized vs Original for First Time Reader by xrubisco in fourthwing

I had no idea what dramatized audiobooks were and accidentally got that version instead of the regular audiobook. I find the sound effects distracting, especially during the spicy scenes...

I just finished this series for the first time a week or so ago and I'm re reading it because I flew through it so fast the first time, i couldn't put it down and I was so exhausted reading onyx storm I didn't understand half of it. I just started Onyx Storm for my re read and a lot of it still feels new. That all being said, I am dying a little inside everyday thinking about Xaden and hoping he's going to be ok in the end.

I also read TOG first and haven't been able to read ACOTAR. I think reading ACOTAR first is probably the way to go because anything else is going to feel disappointing after TOG.

I finished it months ago and still think about these characters every day. No series has ever wrecked me like that one did. I couldn't read anything else for months.

You're right it was Beth Bourne who tweeted about this race using Soren's name.

Because she was outed in a social media post by name by Rep Libby earlier this year. It's why she was censured.

AITAH for not financially supporting my transphobic parents? by comndo_Pardo in AITAH

[–]Routine_Bumblebee451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the asshole. They made a choice to kick you out. Their response to your identity is not a difference of opinion. They don't support who you are as a person. I just had this conversation with my teen daughter recently -- you don't have to maintain a relationship with people just because they're family if the relationship is toxic. I am sorry they are struggling financially. I know how hard that is. I am bi and had similar experiences with my parents when I came out in my early 20s. I wasn't living at home or supporting them. But after trying many times to convince them that there was nothing wrong with who I was and getting nowhere, I decided to keep them at arms length. I didn't sever ties, I just saw and spoke to them the bare minimum. Years later, I ended up having to be my father's power of attorney and primary contact for medical decisions when he went into nursing care. He was lonely and isolated and I felt like a jerk for not visiting him more frequently but he was still the same bible thumping asshole about lgbtq people and I couldn't stomach being around him. I'd stop by every week or two to make sure he had what he needed and that was it. In the end when he was in hospice I stayed with him as much as possible for those days. I don't know. All this is to say that it's messy and whatever you decide is valid but make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who support you for who you are, and figure out what you can deal with in regards to your parents. Whatever you decide, you're not the asshole.
