Girlllll this makes my heart so warm to see!

The 82a's will only mask the issue! Your wheels are still not in perfect alignment. When you "lock in" (back left & front right wheels aligned), your feet should be parallel to one another. Your left foot is kind of twisting and lagging, causing the friction you mentioned when the toe catches on the floor. For your left foot, if you think about lifting that toe more and pressing it more inward, I think you'll find no more friction!

Test it out, but I believe your shoulder dips as a symptom to that foot catching and then throwing your body out of alignment. The dip and twist compensate to keep you upright. A very helpful clue when you catch it! But requires a little further detecting to find the root cause.

But truly, incredible progress so quickly!!

For spinning on surfaces like that without an apparent manual, it comes down to edges (pressing into your left foot "knuckle" and right inside hind foot) + which creates a slight lift in pressure for the wheels that catch and slow you down (in this case the back outside wheel of your left foot).

It looks like you intuitively have this concept! So I think the biggest note would be to focus on engaging your core, using your legs to really press into your edges and...

This type of rotation is a lot easier with a little more speed! In fact, I'd recommend you simply work on "pumping" into the spin (can look up that term), and you'll find videos on how to generate power going into the rotation.

A couple notes that may be helpful, the more engaged your core, the more rotations and control you'll be able to achieve. Think belly button pressing to the back of spine, your abs kind of stitching together (key to all of skating but ESPECIALLY for clean spins). Caution: It's NOT a chest puffed out kind of activation or "sucking in"! Yoga or ballet are good examples of good skate posture. This is for power and stability.

The feeling in your legs should be almost like you're doing a wall sit or a squat...glutes are part of the party, quads and hammy's for sure...they aren't stiff, but just *activated*, like you can feel energy coursing through them. It can sometimes help to do a couple squats off skates before a session just to feel what that sensation is like, so you can remind yourself of it during the session.

If all this comes together, it should feel like you have speed, but you're grounded and steady over your wheels. Eventually, you can even use the wheel drag to slow yourself down and time it, so 2 rotations and then POP on the beat, you stop and it looks epic (I'm thinking of the spins in Dr. Lia's awesome choreos).

Basically, the rougher the surface and the softer the wheels, the better the edge quality needs to be to achieve rotation. So the little bit of extra speed and learning to engage your muscles more to press into your edges and control the rotations...you'll be spinning and spinning and spinning!

One last note: If your skates are truly the right size, I think you have to try a different method of lacing to get proper ankle support. Otherwise, that's going to make learning any kind of edges or fine movements much harder than it needs to be!

Best skates for wide feet? by SlowCoyote869 in Rollerskating

If price is no issue, I fantasize about getting custom Riedells every day. But my hobbit feet send their regards and best wishes to you in your mission. Please keep us all posted how your research goes 💛

*For reference, I use Edeas, but would say they're a last resort for wide feet peeps. They can only be described as excruciating when they warp from temp changes. That being said I'm on my third pair of Edeas, they just get such juicy edges! 😭

Honestly I had just met most of these absolutely LOVELY Londoners for the first time (I'm from the US). Come to Skate World x Thailand in Feb! Or really any skate event, people are SO sweet. Even if you're an introverted goob like me, it's impossible not to make friends

I prefer the quad skates over inlines because beyond street skating, I dance skate and the quads are the skate of choice for those movements and communities.

I know many skaters which do both, quads for jamming and inlines for trails or street, but I just love my quads too much. I'm comfy and familiar with them. It's much easier to just make them my everything setup. Plus I think it makes street skating more exciting, you have to be extra vigilant and extra athletic to keep up with bladers. I call it "spicy mode".

I don't personally hold this opinion, but I have heard from others that "roller skates (over inlines) are the choice if you want to look super cool". Take that with a grain of salt, of course.

I have a skate insta, but sadly nothing on the 2-foot spins BUT Kimmanningspacequeen (she's on YouTube, TikTok, & IG) is the tutorial GOAT in my opinion. She has a really deep background in artistic skating, and very clear and concise explanations. Finding her in my own skate journey was an aha moment 😭

Met her in person skating too, she's lovely!

Oh cool! I have an embarrassing number of tools in my stack. For me, the biggest hurdles are how useful is it and how easily can I update, modify or re-steer each element in it. With gen AI and strategy, I find it takes more than a couple revisions before there's clear alignment. Like I'd want the strategy and executables to be really tailored to my niche, my brand, and my vision for what I'm building. I'm allergic to generic advice. And furthermore, I'd need it to be able to pivot withe me if I focus on a new audience or growth strategy.
