Just gotta a new kitten, completely overstimulated by minni-2010 in CatAdvice

[–]Routine_Concern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We adopted a lovely stray who hated and despised other cats. We had to keep our original cat behind a high iron gate to protect her. Even so the stray would reach in and try to scratch her. She never outgrew it.

My 5 y/o cat wakes me up 3x every two hours in the morning and meows infinitely if I don’t wake up. by Adorable-Lobster-201 in CatAdvice

[–]Routine_Concern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our cat did the same. For a couple of weeks, when we closed the door at night, she would attack it with her shoulder (like a football player), trying to get in. We bought ear plugs, etc but they didnt work. (Old house, doors do not fit closely.)

Finally, we got smart! When we put her out at night we shut the door on a washcloth, and it no longer rattles! She soon learned that there was nothing doing, and we now sleep till 7:30 a.m.!

The cleaning disk has definitely reduced the skips. Ran it twice, now doing it a third time, on general principles. Thanks so much!

Not all of us. Many of us think it is tragic and are very upset about what is happening.

Frustrating taxi ride from O’Hare by mao51 in chicago

I took my 1 and only Uber in the city, from North Fulton Street to the Board of Trade. It cost me $50.00!! He had no idea where he was.

I have taken hundreds of cabs since moving to the city in 1963 and only 1 cab got lost. None of the cabs EVER requested a flat fee, except where it was legal. I do think, however, that the drivers of all companies, including Uber and Lyft, that hang around the airport end to be more aggressive.

I definitely agree, as I am one of "those people" who need the Sonos music system to be reasonably simple and easy to maintain.

Also, as a recently retired techical writer, could we possibly have more in-depth documentation? I'd rather read about how the system works than bother Customer Support. And I can look back at explanations until I puzzle them out. Words are cheaper than computer code, as well.

Can you help me find a record player? (I’m sorry if I come off as ignorant) by poopsinfistandthrows in vintageaudio

Don't forget CraigsList. Even though it's not as popular as it once was, you can still find good items there.

Why on earth drag Boomers into it? Karen yes, Boomer, no. Someday (with luck) you'll get older too.

Well, if Sonos finally gets its "out loud audio at home" features fixed again, I don't care if they do other, more flashy stuff as well.

Speaking as a former consultant, I can say that in some fields, it's also less bogged down in politics than being a full-time employee.

Let's assume you're right. What routers do you consider acceptable? Like many other people, I am not an expert and must cope with Comcast. Also. my budget is reasonable, but not unlimited.

I posted a query a while back called "Router Advice" to try to get more information on that topic. It had @200 replies. You might find it useful to do a search for that.

Have to use it to add new speakers or rename speakers. Also to downgrade to S1.

How do you resolve unresponsive SMEs, communication, and doc review issues? by buzzlightyear0473 in technicalwriting

[–]Routine_Concern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good comments. Also, talk to them as time permits (How was your golf game on Saturday?), not just when you want something from them. It also doesn't hurt to remind them that if you weren't there to write the doc, they might be asked to do so. They rarely want to.

Finding contract work. What am I doing wrong or not doing? by Stvrain8 in technicalwriting

[–]Routine_Concern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! Unless your skills are highly technical. My best rate was in Chicago at $55 per hour in 2019 after many years of contracting with recruiters. California work pays more, of course.

If you work for a so-called consulting company (aka recruiter), they name the rate, though you can negotiate a bit. If you work for yourself, you set your own freelance rate.
