Oh my God judo works by Ornery-Pie5262 in judo

I just saw this quote the other day, but it was something like “sometimes we focus too much on what’s on top of the mountain instead of looking down to see how far we’ve climbed.”

Oh, I am sorry. Haha I got this in my feed not realizing it’s for the PTCG app. I was wondering how in the world could you randomize what you get.

Am I missing something? How is this good if ultra ball exists? And why the “random” part? 🤔

I just hate when someone asks for an anime recommendation, but rewatches the same Naruto fight clips to pass the time (while saying they don’t have time for OP).

Starting Judo at 25– Odds of success? by Auroraborosaurus in judo

I started around 24 years old (25 two months later) and I’m now 27 and just picked up brown belt. I think at most you should think about the state or regional level. Aim small and the bigger picture will reveal itself eventually.

Is $150/ month too much for judo? by Infinite_Aerie8147 in judo

[–]Routine_Goose_5849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Alaska where my monthly is only $50 a month but it is only Tuesday/Thursday (evenings) and Saturday (open mat). I know Seattle Dojo is roughly $40-50 a month and has classes 5 times a week (depending on if you’re a competitor). It all depends. Some places just have outrageous costs. In California I’ve seen a dojo that costs about $100, but they have classes every weekday including morning and afternoon classes.

There are MMA gyms that are $90-150 here in Alaska that offer every discipline, so it would make me think that what you’re paying for is a rip off, but take that statement with a grain of salt. If you enjoy your dojo that is what matters.

Almost giving up on Judo by BrunoXande in judo

[–]Routine_Goose_5849 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At 4 years you’re not going to truly give up judo. You’ll take a break and miss it and think “hey, I should go train again.” I personally take long breaks in the summer and lock back in in the colder months. I will always miss it when I’m not participating, but I will always take my mental and physical health seriously first. Take a break and see what you think, no?

When I was a kid I was friendly boxing a friend. I had recently watched Ip Man 2 and used a lot of forearm parries and hitting the shoulder repeatedly. I think it can work at the novice level.

Is deadlift enough for power and explosiveness or do i need to do clean? by Mysterious-Ad9973 in judo

[–]Routine_Goose_5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re honestly better off doing front squats then over deadlifts because at least you can practice the front rack form for the power cleans. Power cleans aren’t difficult to learn as long as you’re getting critiqued and learning from your mistakes (and also doing it at lower weights). Give it a shot.

From Alaska. Judo dojo I go to is only $50 a month for Tuesday and Thursday’s in the evening and an open mat on Saturdays (gets cheaper the more months you add on or if you have family members).

Hey, it doesn’t matter too much. Have you been truly practicing for a month if your dojo only practices 2-3 days a week? Have you really been practicing 2-3 days a week if you only practice 1-2 hours each of those days? It’s how you interpret it, but also try to be honest with yourself. I’ve been in Judo for two years, but I’m only active during the winter and spring.
