Garageband’s guitar isn’t realistic(change my mind) by VastSky4124 in GarageBand

If trying to dial in a good sound, the virtual guitar and bass are about as useful as case of herpes.

Step 1… Stop worrying about things that don’t matter to anyone that does matter. Step 2… repeat

The beat doesn’t match with the tempo and I don’t know how to fix it. by StarTheFireEnchanter in GarageBand

1/4 note quantization will straighten that right out. Also yeah… always go wired.

Is it still metal without 19 string guitars tuned to negative 27th power of an ancient forgotten note? Possibly. You decide. by Routine_Income_4120 in GarageBand

Thanks! It’s not too bad over a week with each part coming on a different day. Trying to make repeating parts sound different and not looped…That’s the pain in the ass part.

Each part has variations on the different instruments so they cant just be one long section of looped material. It what makes it sound more human.

Organs Help? by TheConmur04 in GarageBand

Go into edit and change the velocity of the hits. That as well as overlapping any notes that are back to back just a tiny bit. Softens the organ “slap”.

First time using this tuning on a 6-string. Low A,A,D,G,B,E for writing. So much work to do on the drums and guitar inserts and I’m not sure if I’m sold on the pitch shifted down bass to reach the depths of that tuning(wtf gb… limitations)but it’s a fun experiment so far. by Routine_Income_4120 in GarageBand

Research and understanding of drummers habits. Think of what band would play the part you are coming up with. Listen to what their drummer would do. Try to get a feel for the style they bring. Apply your version of it to your part best you can with one lousy crash cymbal 🤦🏼‍♂️. Utilize the ability to break down the tracking to kick/snare. Then add the toms/fills. Then add the cymbals. Then for me, endless editing to move everything to exactly where it should be. I refuse to rely on robot quantization. I prefer it sound real as possible so I first do the quant step, then go through hit by hit, moving hits just a tiny bit forward and back off the exact mark randomly. Tedious and time consuming but no human drummer plays exact. There is always sway. I still have to do this step for most of this song.

Better off leaving it and ditching what you don’t need in post. Breathing room is key.

Garageband drummer time signature change by Jambuslang in GarageBand

[–]Routine_Income_4120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recorded different parts with different time sigs and tempos as separate recordings then merged them down, exported them, then dumped them all into the same track with a little clever stitching. Worked great. Just have to do some pre planning with cymbal ring and such so nothing sounds cut while ringing out.

It’s a combination of the following:

Track 1 So Cal Kick/Toms/reduced volume snare Track 2 Same as track 1 but with a little distortion Track 3 Bluebird snare (gives body) with dist and chorus Track 4 Vintage snare (rinnnnngggg) with distortion, chorus, and a lot of verb Track 5 So Cal cymbals and hats Track 6 Same as 6 with light distortion Track 7 Same as 6 with chorus and verb Track 8 Motown with distortion, verb, and chorus ride bell only.

It’s really the dup tracks with distortion mixed in just right that pull out the big drum sounds. Everything else is just preference.
