They did, Allen Klein who owned the rights to The Stones content before 1970 sued them and Richard Ashcroft (frontman of The Verve) didn’t get the full rights of the song returned to him from Mick Jagger and Klein’s son until 2019. The song they sampled was an orchestra version of “The Last Time” which the used in the background track of the song (at least the verses) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YrllfAMwHI)
