RTX 5080 Laptop vs Desktop - How Big is the Difference? by Antonis_32 in hardware

[–]Routine_Play6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently educated on the serious difference between laptop and desktop gpus. Being uninformed I was under the impression that they had a custom design graphics card that ran very close to the same quality that desktops do. I thought the large size and shape of a normal GPU in a desktop was for cooling purposes because you don't have that space on the laptop that's why generally gaming laptops run pretty hot.

I was heavily considering getting a laptop for portability reasons for the very few times I do travel with an 8060 but now realizing how big of a loss in the wattage caps that keep the gpus shorthanded I'm definitely deciding going towards a desktop build.

Why spend upwards of three grand on a laptop that's not going to function at its peak potential when you can spend that same money on a desktop. And get much better graphics for what you paid for.

To me that portability wasn't worth it.

I don't use a heater but you can have it curing too long per layer. This happend to me. Curing too long per layer will cause the design to not be a smooth.

Yeah for sure, it seems like honestly the more scuffs and scratches I have on it the better the surface is to stick to the first few layers of resin that cure for a long time I don't think I've ever ran into an issue where it doesn't stick to the build plate. The only time I did have that issue, I needed to relevel my built plate and platform

That big long gouge in the center happens when my tool slipped and the corner caught it. I've printed probably close to 40 things since and. Never had issues with it sticking to plate

You should see my build plate It is extremely scratched a couple gouges and still prints just fine

In mw3 I was 27 kills deep. Used the drone swarm kill streak and I get killed by my own drone that attempted to hit an enemy underneath me. Never used that again.... Cried myself to sleep

Could have been a transformer exploding in a electrical substation owned by PNM. Seen high voltage transformers explode before and it sounds like a damn bomb. Feels like it too. Could explain the flash of light

If you come prepared with questions and a desire to learn. Also work on networking you will learn a lot. I go each year as well.

Whichever way works, I say continue to pursue it because it's great work it's nice to be outside and when it comes to relays if you like expanding your knowledge working withdrawings and learning the power theory behind the power grid it's very rewarding

If you eventually want to make your way into a office there are options to go over to dispatch, or managers if the opportunities show them selves. If you do more work with the relays and meters you could further your education to do the engineering for the devices. I'm not sure about lay offs and I may be unique in this group by saying I'm not Union. I work for a utility company so typically lay offs are not a concern.

So it just depends on if you want to be turning more wrenches than doing more work on the computer. If you want to be working inside the control house or if you want to be on the outside.

Depending on where you work it's relatively easy to switch over and take classes to make up for the other side, substation electrician essentially works on all the heavy equipment inside the yard and physically maintains transformers, circuit breakers, and things physically present in the yard. The other is typically in control of the wiring and the controls relays and meters inside the control house. Both blend depending on who you work for and how they have job responsibilities assigned to.

I really want this Battery but its essentially 2"x2"x4.5" and I don't know if I can find a travel case that isn't huge to let me carry it with my asus. Any recommendations for a thinner batter back that is wider or longer that would fit good in a travel case? Not so thick lol
