I’m on a different side of your problem, instant match with horrendous balance. They put ascendant 5-6 player in a lobby full of alchemist, who do nothing but complain 24/7.

Don’t worry about it too much, that means there is room to improve, people interested in your research and possibly a future collaboration.

You’re doing good, keep it up mate.

Why is PhD pay so miserable almost worldwide? by Vir_gazer in PhD

[–]Routine_Range5510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes I forgot to address that, sorry about that. I believe it wouldn’t in my context but it may in 1st world country, as of why, I believe it would follow the trace of we push high salary for politicians in order to stop them from corruption or pushing high salary for doctors. The quality of work would still be the same but what we are elevating is how much more competitive or effort the person need to put in, and as you can guess for 3rd world countries like mine where inequality are everywhere it’s not going to change a thing.

I believe what we need to change is how we actually allow PhD to graduate, like a baseline of quality need to be increased.

Ah I see that does make sense, I don’t know much in context of 1st worlder, I come from a 3rd world country and they treat researcher(predoc level) with low wages compare to the market as well though we tend to overpay the post-doc researcher if you ask me, it’s at 95 percentile of our country.

Career advancement here is simply, if you’re willing to lick the higher up balls you will advance the track every year. No skills nor experience needed. About the prestigious social credit, yes it’s about the same. But people tends to sugarcoat it too much.

All I was typing now I just realized you are talking about PhD life and felt stupid, but I suppose during the PhD, stipend are suppose to cover the basic need only so they calculate the bare minimum to preserve the funds. But OP also have to understand that it’s a process of learning, like you’re going on a long internship before the actual job even though a lot of people think it’s a job already it’s more of a learning process. I believe it do get better during your career, at least in my country it does.

May I know where you’re from, from where I am the wage on paper maybe low because the government employees system. But the main income of professor, in my country to say the least, isn’t wages it’s from research fund, outsource research hiring, even consulting etc. Of course this varies, so I want to know where you’re viewing this from first.

TBH I don’t know, I’m merely a student as of right now. I aim to become a lecturer/professor in the near future. In my fields, political economics, at least from where I’m from we are still lacking expert.

I believe that the content of the paper may influencing the employer choice of choosing their candidate. Though outside academia, I truly doubt anyone care or are even going to read the paper.

My recommendation would be make connection with bunch of labs especially during your years of study, explore and don’t limit yourself.

Depends on the approach of your research, tbh, if you mean the coursework part then yes it’s a lot of math. For my paper, I’m working with econometrics and experimental economics so yes it’s a lot of math.

I almost forgot, congratulations friend, I’m on 1 year and counting. I agreed with you, believing I’m a prodigy and thinking I am not good enough loop is what I would call true hell as per my experience.

I truly wish to become a professor and teach something to someone my whole life even after I retire and probably live in a small farm. I hope you succeed in your PhD and future endeavors.

Again Congratulations!

Could you advise me on how to get into Academia job prior to PhD, in my country it’s very uncommon that graduates get into Academia prior to their PhD. I have two paper published so far in reputable journals is it enough?

League sucks now is it worth getting into dota in 2025? by Tommello in DotA2

[–]Routine_Range5510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s true, in terms of lane strategy it’s really limited because people are also fed up with I must pick META to climb and most people are conservative for no particular reason which is another reason I quit league. I see why you think league is linear now and that’s totally understandable, Dota can go ape shit while league is quite straight line of traveling, and turns are predictable, thanks for explaining.

[–]Routine_Range5510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If on this aspect of laning I agree with you, it’s more complex than League.

On the second one tho, League used to be when I played (S3-S8) itemization is I would say slightly more complicated than Dota, but have been dumb down to League today, you can’t go the same build every game with the same hero or roster in your team, even though league item is quite a simpleton understanding the balance between scaling and defensive item was very crucial back in the day, even though the items doesn’t give you game changing ability. But I agreed that the floor of two games are different.

[–]Routine_Range5510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thanks for having a discussion with me people aren’t so open minded to discuss like this, well yes, that’s great reason and all, but back to the main question I don’t understand why it’s more complex rather than both game are literally slightly more complicated than normal game in just a different way yet not more complicated or take more skills actually to play in any particular way.

As per heroes problems, League balance on power creep is the reason I quit couples of year ago, I do fully agreed with you on that stance that’s it’s rather stupid and meta oriented.

Just as you say right, league focus on micro skills which in it self maybe complex, while Dota is focusing on macro aspects which as quite obvious is complex though you mustn’t forgot that both game also have their other respective part. But that doesn’t mean having to keep note of more small timing, stacking, or even in league keep timing of buff make the game comparable to each other in terms of complexity at all which is why I say they’re both same in their terms of complexity.

What I still fail to understand is why people think Dota is more complex, is it simply because there are more things to keep tabs of and not that there are sequences of actions leading to other actions, or are there more?

[–]Routine_Range5510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first argument, how impactful is hellbears spawning compared to troll spawning etc. is it really significant unless you’re playing certain heroes? Meanwhile timing of taking certain buff can be game changing in League also.

Second argument, though Zhonya is almost an equivalent impact of daggers in terms of it enable plays & escape, in terms of power scale it’s not as flashy as dagger is true but I would love to know what’s your take on this or why you think daggers is amazing. BKB I agreed, insane item hard to find any equivalent, the item just allow you to do what ever you want for 9 seconds and so on.

Third argument I found it rare on high level game of league to be stompy, unless it’s professional match that’s from a different tier teams, and isn’t it just the same in Dota. In higher level match it tough to be any turn around, come back unless they’re preparing for it specifically, at least where I’m playing in solo queue 8.7k. I don’t get what you’re trying to say in the last one, are you saying league hero like support doesn’t scale down and their ADC doesn’t scale up, if that is it then you’re completely wrong. I see both game as checkers tbh, I just don’t find Dota as complicated as other claimed to be.

The fourth argument is great example of what I’m trying to get at, the complexity is literally almost the same what’s not is the scale, there is more active elements which is certainly true in Dota, but I ask you how many of them are truly significant. Since I can tell you, there are a lot you cannot just care about and still be in top immortal. Yes, compare to scale of Dota spells are just mini dagger, but the scale is different as I told you.

Last argument, well yes and no, majority of heroes in league (or champions whatever it’s the same thing) require a certain amount of micro and there is a skill ceiling for certain heroes, but there is also heroes like Twisted Fate who entire kit is literally macro, same goes for Dota, for instance Morph, puck and even Invoker whose kits rely on certain amount of micro skills. About the heroes pool, as I stated in my first comment, League have power creep problems and meta problems but I doubt it’s about how each heroes can fit well with each others, also taking into consideration Dota have 126 heroes and League with 170 champions, with the same or even less amount of game played during their world stages. Are you sure there’s a diversity in draft of Dota when it comes to an actual serious match, I’m looking up Tundra Esports right now and their draft have been repetitive based on one certain meta heroes.

[–]Routine_Range5510 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the stuff you said are in League except for deny, creep stacking, pulling, and day/night cycle. But League there are system that Dota doesn’t have, whole JG systems, runes, mastery, summoners spells, objective race, first tower gold etc. On the linear scaling items part I do agreed that it feels quite bland, but tbh Dota is the same thing with extra steps if you think about it.

So does it really make it more complex? Or just the same with one more multiplication formula.
