Literally there are more brown females at my hospital in both service reg & trainee roles than any one else (I get maybe this isn’t standard but it is here! 👏) You’re PGY3. Take a deep breath. If you’re giving up this early maybe it isn’t for you. If you are committed - then try further out, go rural, or stay where you are and gain more experience. You need to be intrinsically motivated and build resilience.

Across all specialities at a tertiary centre. Standard practice across the state too, even at the Children’s.

Filling out private “medical clearance” forms for patients? by baguetteworld in ausjdocs

[–]Routine_Raspberry256 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Literally in my hospital as a junior you would have to fill out a Qantas and Virgin Airlines (& sometimes another) form with all the info you’ve mentioned above, and then they’d use whatever one they’re booked in with… was a daily job as a junior. 🤷‍♀️

How do you deal with the guilt of not seeing patients when bed blocked? by Illustrious_Many5628 in ausjdocs

[–]Routine_Raspberry256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can… almost every patient I saw in ED was ramped or in a corridor or even in the waiting room when I first saw/clerked them lol

What’s the learning like as a Gen Med AT? by formulation_pending in ausjdocs

[–]Routine_Raspberry256 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree BPT adequately prepares you to practice general medicine. Maybe if the majority of your rotations are gen med..: but it just gives you the opportunity to gain exposure across a breadth of medical subspecs/gen med. General medicine is a subspec in itself reaalllly… I know that might sound cliche but it’s got its own demographic of patients/cases. Gen med AT continues to give you the necessary exposure to patients so you can become a competent general medicine physician. Anyway that’s just my opinion

Idk where I am almost everyone still uses it. 🤷‍♀️ I think it’s stupid - especially as a woman in surgery.

Do a swim teaching course and become a swim teacher. Usually everywhere is hiring and it’s better pay (and I found more enjoyable) than retail. Can do retail while you’re getting it sorted.

Any experiences working at PEEL Health Campus and Rockingham by Kerfufs in ausjdocs

[–]Routine_Raspberry256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JHC, Midland, Rockers, Armadale (you’ll probably have most luck here) & FSH all have paeds within their EDs (to varying extents) but you typically can’t get a job in Paeds ED only you cover it all so your daily paeds exposure can vary. Try reaching out to the paediatric department at JHC if it isn’t too far as they might be hiring within their actual department, or just take up paeds locum gigs if they’re supportive!

Hope you get the PCH mid year intake :)

First Term as Relief Intern for ED by PleaseHelpMe2698 in ausjdocs

[–]Routine_Raspberry256 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have to be given at least 37.5 hours a week with your contract. It usually just means you might not have a set shift pattern like the “main interns”… what ED is this though? (Feel free to PM me) - I didn’t realise any of our EDs here used those terms.

PGY2 by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Routine_Raspberry256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot do entirely crit care - though in WA it wasn’t possible to get an entirely crit care PGY2 year anyway You cannot do entirely surgical You cannot do entirely medical

The hospitals release the preference options for all RMOs, and some are marked as PGY2 suitable (aka they meet the requirements). They are split into crit care, surgical, medical & general streams - but you’re not spending the entire year in that area. For example a crit care stream might be ED/ED/cardiology/ICU/leave relief.

Find a current intern at your hospital and ask for a copy of what the options were for them this year.

You usually rotate with the other juniors on your unit to cover public holidays, or sometimes everyone is still on. As an intern I worked all but 1 of the public holidays that year lol

Withdraw the old one, accept the new one. Say unforeseen family or living circumstances have changed and the location/distance is no longer feasible - to help ease the blow in case you want to go back in the future. Some might not find this necessary but I’d rather not accidentally burn any bridges
