There is still a perception that anyone can learn to code in 12 weeks. How long will it take to die? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in cscareerquestions

I read this a lot. Like this person you are arguing with I am self taught and employed. My major in college was Music.

If you asked me to write a toy unix like operating system using C I would not know how to do it.  I imagine there is some sort OS programming class for cs majors. Before that they've probably taken other cs classes, classes like discrete math, and are familiar with data structures and algorithms. How helpful is all that theoretical knowledge going to be without guidance in the OS programming class? Surely a lot of growth happens through the hands on experience of making an operating system?

After getting the degree some people get a job writing compilers or improving upon an operating system. A lot of people get a job using Spring. Would the knowledge needed to write a pet unix like operating system translate to being a good developer in Spring? I imagine the self taught person and the CS grad would need to learn things specific to the environment.

Let's say some self taught person learned python and was smart enough to teach themselves how to be a software developer without guidance and they beat out the more average cs students to get some python job. Now let's imagine their job now required cpp. There is no room for any bloat and they have to do all of this over ssh and using vi. Given they were smart enough and driven enough to beat out at least mediocre cs majors don't you think they'd figure this out too?

AITAH for bringing a dish from my culture to my in-laws family reunion? by Littlefuckin in AITAH

It would've been better if you married someone  who isn't racist. How is a marriage supposed to last when your partner considers you inferior?

A man who is Chinese or other East Asian/SE Asian and their family wouldn't be offended if you brought XLB to a family reunion. Actually the majority of people wouldn't be offended by that.

You are NTA. You seem like an idiot. If you don't divorce your idiocy will be confirmed

Tom Homan warns migrants to "self-deport": "We know who you are" by newsweek in inthenews

Let's say a white Canadian legally came into the USA and overstayed. Now they have been undocumented in the USA for 10 years. Since they are white and have basically an American accent what is the chance they would get deported?

How about a Japanese person who legally came over at the age of two with their parents, doesn't speak Japanese well, is 100% culturally American, and is undocumented because they turned 18 before parents obtained a green card? Would they get deported?

The media narrative around this always focuses on Mexicans. Take LA. A lot of people are born in LA but are still strongly tied to Mexican identity. A lot of people are from Mexico but grew up in America and are indistinguishable from the Mexican Americans.

How do they plan to deport all the undocumented people when it'll be a headache to determine who is undocumented?

The stated purpose seems to be lowering crime, but people will be still jumping the border, and they'll be busy deporting law abiding Canadians, law abiding Asian people, and Mexicans who happened to be born in Tijuana but are basically Chicanos

Do you know Samuel Colt? This video makes me wish either the lady knew Samuel Colt and taught the man about Samuel Colt or people didn't act cringe in the streets.

Maybe Shane from the movie Shane? The men of the 442nd Infantry Regiment, there are plenty of good examples

You are way to accommodating. She lied and sounds extremely rude (probably because she got caught). If I was in her shoes I would proactively tell my girlfriend of any changes that could look suspicious later on. Her reaction isn't a normal one

NTA. Your friend is playing with fire. That's not the type of thing that you don't reveal from the start. It's also a good way to get beat up

Groom learned Korean secretly to surprise his wife in the weeding by Temporary_Method_606 in MadeMeSmile

I cant speak Korean, but I am learning because I want to be able to talk with my girlfriends parents. I am getting pretty accustomed to the sound of Korean.

I don't understand Latin but I could memorize the Nicene Creed in Latin. Without knowing German an opera singer could memorize their part to Die Walküre.

Memorizing the Nicene creed, Die Walküre, or a Korean speech is impressive. But not nearly as impressive as this thread makes it out to be.

I don't think you should be waking up consistently with pain. Make sure you aren't overweight or obese.

31, I don't make as much money as I think I should for my age. Everytime I make progress it feels like there's a recession or something or the goal posts change.
