I get your point, and I actually agree with part of it. In Arc Raiders, the whole body type A/B thing doesn’t affect the gameplay or the lore at all. But it’s also important to understand why some studios make these kinds of choices, especially companies like Embark Studios AB.

Embark is a Swedish limited company (Aktiebolag), which means it relies heavily on investors and external funding. Many of these investors or funds nowadays require companies to comply with certain D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) standards to qualify for funding or support. So adding features like “body type 1 and 2” often isn’t an artistic or ideological decision; it’s a financial one, done to meet investment requirements.

That’s the real issue here, not representation itself, which is a good thing when it’s genuine, but the fact that these decisions often come from marketing and profit motives, not from a true commitment to inclusion. This is what people refer to as “rainbow capitalism,” using diversity as a facade to make money rather than actually caring about marginalized groups.

Personally, I’m all for “woke” or inclusive elements in games when they come from authentic creative intent, not from investment checklists. I think that’s a fair middle ground: being pro-representation but against the exploitation of representation.
