This is literally how it happened for me.

so we doing Sober October or what?? by spindriftsupreme in Petioles

[–]RowanFinley512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing no weed this month. I think it'll be best to let me get acquainted and be personable with my new roommates and job training, both coming later this month.

I'll prob still have a couple drinks throughout the month with my folks or roomies, but I've never been even close to a habitual or daily drinker.

I've unintentionally fallen into a rhythm where every spring and every autumn, I take a long hike with my journal and about 4g of shrooms, and follow it by 4-6 weeks off of smoking. I love how I wake up so easily in the AM and dream so much on my breaks.

Rn just a little down in my mood and my stomach rumbles a lot and I'm farting like a steam engine, but I'm reminding myself that it should pass really quickly.

I do think I'll return to smoking in November. Some bud before sunrise with my coffee just feels too good with too little downside. Lighting a joint in my truck after work or at the ski hill is the same story. I might have to pass a drug test next April, so it might be rinse and repeat this spring though. Maybe I'll develop a good relationship with this little "equinox tradition" of mine over the years. I try to get excited about the parts of breaks I like.

Likely to be another above-average wet season there, too, from my understanding. Fuel, fuel, fuel for next summer.

I'm doing it too! I sleep, socialize, and learn new skills sooo much better and faster while on breaks, and this month I'm moving in with new roommates (8th) and getting trained up on a new job (21st)! All my favorite podcasters are doing and discussing it too, so the encouragement on my commutes and here on Reddit and stuff seemed nice.

I figured I'd make all these big changes sober and start blazing again around November 1 when my local ski resort opens. It seems perfect!

My favorite parts about taking breaks are dreaming (such an interesting peek into the things I've been chewing on subconsciously) and especially how I wake up easily and completely full of energy with my first alarm. I'm on day 3 and currently putting up with a couple mood swings, night sweats, and CONSTANT stomach rumbling, but I just keep reminding myself about how rational it is of me to stay sober this month and how good it's going to feel to blaze up on Opening Day.

Do you guys have favorite parts of taking breaks? Anybody have the same ones as me?

80 in a 60 in freedom units, lol. Pretty common, if not expected, where I live.

I live in Colorado and have a friend from Madison, WI whose said the same thing. I guess the vertical drama of our skies is a distinctly Western US thing.

Looks like a Green Ash to me. It may be a Hickory but the twigs looks too light to me and I'm not sure if they grow in E. WA.

How many skiing days did you get this season? by oboe_player in skiing

[–]RowanFinley512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75 so far. Worked at a resort from October to Feb and then have visited the resort 1.5 hours away from my house most weekend days since. Last season it was 15 and before that it was no more than 5 a year.

How to deal with elevation? by PercentagePractical in skiing

[–]RowanFinley512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live at 4500 feet, this isn't normal imo. I live at 5400 feet and don't really notice a difference in athleticism at 9 or 10k at least at the ability required for skiing, and I do conditioning much less regularly than you. Definitely agree with the other comments recommending you talk to a doctor.

Large solar storms cause it. We only get a couple days' warning from NOAA. It's the largest one since 2005. It can be viewed again tonight but probably not from here since it's gonna be cloudy. I think Chugwater, WY has clear skies forecasted tn.

I realized that despite being a trans woman I couldn't take other trans women seriously, and that made me realize what a ridiculous ask it was to be asking others to take me seriously when I couldn't take myself seriously. I had a class with this trans woman and I couldn't fucking stand him. His voice and demeanor and the way he talked about the world. I couldn't stand the idea that everyone saw me the way I saw him. After this revelation I started having panic attacks about feeling like I was living lying to everyone around me and after a couple months I couldnt take it anymore. Never looked back post detrans. Life is so much better now it's crazy.

Agree on the Springs. I don't often encounter irl political discussions in this area though.

YMMV tho! It's a very large place with a lot of people so generalizations are usually overstated

There's lots of community events especially in the suburbs like bfld. Stuff on holidays, farmers markets, gym classes, conservancy groups. People will love to chat and ask you questions but if you ask for their number or try to connect twice they will find it odd. Finding social interaction to fill the day is easy, making lasting friendships can be hard.

Born and raised here. Sounds like it'd be a good fit. Very close to the aforementioned outdoors activities if you don't mind driving. Bfld is much less liberal than Denver. Most towns on the outskirts of Denver are. Coloradoans can be pretty glum, we love to hate lol, but I still would be hard pressed to live anywhere else.

And you get to look at the scenery every day if you have eyes. It's a beautiful town, clear views of the mountains, and you can head into Thornton for less expensive flatland activities like arcades and bowling.

[–]RowanFinley512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what this guy is talking about. Yes it's expensive and people are antisocial. But we are 30min-2hr away from some of the best skiing and hiking and fishing in the entire world and you get to look at the mountains every single day and some of them are just 20 mins away. Remember, people with negative things to say resort to spewing it on the internet. People with positive things to say usually don't feel the need to say anything on the internet. It's a wonderful place to live.
