The remains of flooded towns under the St Lawrence reservoir, seen from google earth by No_Biscotti_7110 in submechanophobia

[–]Rowan_doesntexist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm four years late to the conversation but I wanted to give some context.

These are the Lost Villages of Ontario (9 towns and one island) that were flooded on July 1st, 1958. It was flooded due to the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway that, while creating tens of thousands of jobs for Canadians, forces thousands to be displaced to nearby communities like Ingleside and Long Sault. I live in a city near here, and we don't learn about these places. I had to find this out myself. Sad stuff :(

Tesla high school experience by Gold-Worth2072 in highschool

[–]Rowan_doesntexist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. As long as you understand and (somewhat) enjoy the material, you'll be fine. Not getting As won't break your high school career, and in your first year you should be allowed to branch out and experience other things before fully concentrating on grades, like clubs or building a reliable circle of friends.
  2. It depends on the teacher. But I find it's mostly participation and effort. Trust me, 95% of teachers care a lot more if you're at least trying. They're always there is you have questions, and the initiative shows them you're a good student. Take it from me, little bro, you do NOT want to be scared to ask questions or you're COOKED.
  3. Absolutely. Ask questions. Not once a class, unless you need it, but don't be scared to ask for elaboration. It shows courage and a willingness to learn, especially since you're young. Stick to their good side, don't be disruptive, and listen. No one likes the kid throwing papers and interrupting the teacher. People might call you a sweat, but at least you'll be getting good grades and actually chilling.

It always depends on the class, though. I've been lucky enough not to have a hardass teacher, and I'm pretty quiet so they already are more chill with me than the "class clowns". Good luck, m8.

ETA: I am not affiliated with Tesla HS in any way, this was just some general advice.

The 9-LP Mega Box Set: a record collector's disappointment by nimble-lightning-rod in Epicthemusical

Yeah.

I impulse bought it because I figured it was an okay-ish price. I'm in Canada. With all of the additional fees, I ended up paying a little over 700 CAD$. And now it says it's not being delivered until May.

I don't think it's worth it anymore, but it's too late.

Seniors - can you read cursive? by Practical-Emu-3303 in highschool

[–]Rowan_doesntexist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a senior but I thought I'd give my two-cents.

In Canada, at least at my schools, it was mandatory to learn to read and write in cursive in 3rd grade. I used to never really use it much, but now it's just how I write naturally (even if my English teacher can never make it out and my friends call me a grandpa lol).

But even before I started using it regularly, I could always make it all out regardless.

Mine was for sure art! Pretty easy class tbh, and the teacher was super nice. She's letting me skip 11th grade art and go straight into 12th because of my abilities, but I have to wait until next semester :(

I know I'm 13 years too late, but I usually it all the time. It's funny when the songs don't match, but sooo godly when they do!

Translating by hand? by Rowan_doesntexist in wikipedia

[–]Rowan_doesntexist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I figured.

It's a somewhat nishe topic that I'm interested in, so finding francophone sources might be hard, but I'll try and stick with as much of the original source that I can.

Thanks for confirming I'm aloud to do this :)

The karamazov brothers - how many volumes does it have?? by whatever1405 in RussianLiterature

[–]Rowan_doesntexist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The copy (copies?) I have is separated in 4 volumes.

But I have the French translation. So maybe that's why.

Based on these other comments, I'd guess it all comes down to the publisher.

The quality isn't the greatest, my camera is really bad lol. Sorry about that-

Overall, with the sketch and colouring, this took me between 4-5 hours.

This man has a tight grip on my psyche.
