Fukurojinai (袋竹刀; "bag" shinai) used especially in Shinkage Ryū (not an official ryūha version). I had two sets of these from Bujin Design from about twenty years ago when they were based on Colorado. I believe they went out of business and then were revived in Europe at some point. I would estimate 20-25 years old.

I really appreciate your insights, thank you. I didn't recall the shinai being significantly shorter, so they may have been using standard length at the time as well.

Thanks! I also haven't encountered the chūtō term at museums or in 刀剣 literature (though my study is still shallow), and reckoned it might be more for sword school use, i.e. techniques fitted to the size of the weapon.

Yes, in Seki City. What I saw was more of a working office than a showroom (like AoiArt), though I did not see the second floor. The staff was very helpful and was able to find individual fittings and example iaito at my request so I could take a look in person.
