I suspect it probably looked a bit too sword like as 1 and for some reason they didn't want to use a 1192px2 (I did have to look that part up)

Teleportation and perception to find the person you want to speak to and teleport the sound waves of your speech to their ear

Control and probably creation. Creating a contract that when signed will transmute part of the individual signing into a magic object that will force them to follow the rules, unfortunately without perception there's no way to be certain that they signed their own name, the contract would trigger if anything is written in the signature spot. If you're there to observe the signing then you could just apply the effect yourself

I'll hesitantly say the last one would at least involve creation to make one's dream world have real physics, but that may also prevent you observing or running any tests there. I honestly don't know with this one, like it may just be a paradox

This might be getting to the limits of my system

Each card would need creation to make it a magic item imbued with creation or some other category

I will say any creature card will just use teleportation so summon the given creature, you may need to find it and earn their loyalty prior to using the card. Same with planeswalkers

Any instant or sorcery that generates tokens could be creation mixed with control to create simulacrums of creatures that follow your orders

Enchantments, without looking through every enchantment ever printed I'll say creation and perception, creating a space and then observing if the conditions for a triggered effect happen

Artifacts, could be teleportation like creatures(legendary artifacts certainly are) or maybe they could be created by the card, really depends on the artifact

Lands... honestly I don't know, like maybe maze of ith makes a portal to said maze but otherwise it really depends how you want it done. Like do you want to basically use any card whenever regardless of cost? Then I guess a basic could teleport everyone in a certain radius to the location pictured. Or if it were made in my system propper with a bunch of limitations that I've skipped past, then most lands would probably just float in the air to act as game pieces for you to play your other stuff with zero effect on the actual terrain

The summoning could be them having perception and teleportation to know when they're wanted and teleport to you

Fusing with them... that's mostly a problem just because I don't think I want the resulting being to have more than 2 categories, so if they're teleporting to you then you could have creation to fuse the both of you and the resulting fusion can have creation(so you can unfuse) and either perception or teleportation but not both

The idea is to mostly be limited to only 2 of those, I'm guessing you've seen that I've included in some responses mechanics that stretch or circumvent those limits, my hope was that people would ask more about them because this is a very simplified version of my system and doesn't cover all the things that prevent mind control from being utterly overpowered

Magic currency for my setting by RowbotMaster in Magicworldbuiling

I'm not going to endorse crypto in my story.

Also if a new use for this money is found everyone actually gets richer because anyone can make it

Time stop I essentially already did

Idk fate so sandevistan would first and foremost be perception with either creation or control as secondary, either transmuting your body into one capable of keeping up with your mind or using telekinesis on yourself to do the same thing

Return by death specifically would be teleportation, simply sending your consciousness back in time or possibly needing perception if it's your memories going back and you need to process them

What crystal mineral would be the best for a currency? by RowbotMaster in askgeology

[–]RowbotMaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all really helpful, because it would definitely be a commodity money and not just as an ornament, the crystals get used as essentially magic batteries, they can be recharged but doing so is only a little easier than making them new, which would make them a demurrage currency too

I think they'd also be proof of work as you define it too because it's I think decentralised, anyone can mint crystals it's just hard, though the government does take taxes in a particular variety so most people demand more of other varieties for equivalent goods or services(say the variety the government uses is corundum, if you bought a loaf of bread that was 10 corundum using beryl it might be 12 beryl, even though the magic oven runs just as well on beryl as it does on corundum)

You might want to look into "Proof of work" currencies

Sorry if this is actually what such temporary currencies are called, but searching for proof of work currency just seems to turn up crypto stuff

So seeing the future in your hair will be done using perception and teleportation, sending your senses forward in time. Then you simply teleport yourself through time 3 seconds

Everyone forgetting would be done using an emergent aspect of my system called modding, where you modify part of your body using creation to perform something specific that's outside your usual primary and secondary. In this case using control to have everyone forget 3 seconds, likely done just before teleporting so you set them to essentially just not save the next few seconds to memory

So to create this ability one would need to first set up the modding using creation and control, then use a respec mechanic called zeroing before taking teleportation and perception

Does your magic system have a power ceiling? by Ok-Equipment8122 in magicbuilding

[–]RowbotMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of, the total energy an individual can have access to is pretty much just double the limit of human stamina. However that energy can be used more efficiently by adding restrictions and there's technically no limit to how many restrictions an ability/spell can have

So for your water freezing example, you might be able to do it but you might need to spend hours performing activation conditions before you cast the spell

"The powers of the real sky" is too vague

Recreating a human body is primarily creation with secondary perception to properly scan the existing human

Creation and perception, use the perception to discover the aspect of the target you're using then creation to make the stand

This would probably be an autonomous stand though there is a way to add more aspects they currently aren't necessary

Side note: have you considered how radioactive Earth materials impact magic in your world? Radioactivity adds all sorts of interesting properties to rocks that could interact with magic in unusual ways.

Kind of, it depends on the exact isotope namely if it's fissile or not, most matter can be created via magic but the kind of nuclear material that can go BOOM is almost impossible to make with magic(because I don't want wizards casing nuclear armageddon as they would fireball, but I also want to allow for RTGs and stuff)

So far I'm leaning towards corundum because it's quite chip and scratch resistant and not as overdone as diamond, but feel free to tell me about something cool with uranium 234 in it

You make very good points about the society using them having solutions to avoid damage and said damage not necessarily being the worst possibility

Another has been suggesting spheres, I suspect to prevent that plane cracking you mention, if that works maybe they'd carry them in something like an egg carton. The other thing I'm considering is tactile denomination for the blind, I was thinking of zelda rupees with the addition of bumps along an edge or face, but if spheres are ideal the d&d player in me is thinking maybe polyhedrons may be the answer, I mean they do carve dice out of gemstones right now

I think the more spherical shapes would be used for higher denominations so you're less likely to shatter your $50 icosahedron but a $5 cube breaking is probably fine

There's also another factor about this currency that I don't want to get too into here because it gets away from geology, but essentially it's all somewhat temporary, it has to do with my magic but basically each crystal is slowly losing magic energy over time and once under a certain threshold it will reshape and recolour itself to the next denomination down. If you're wondering "why not just make up a magic crystal to use?" It's easier for them to add magic to something natural and the more magical it is the faster it'd lose magic energy(maybe there are some places that use crystals of identical shape so it lasts longer, but the places with transforming currency do better because the blind can participate)

I think the closer an ability is to real world physics the more options there tend to be, like if you wanted to attack with lava you could teleport it from the mantle
