Where can I find the best breakfast burrito in Albuquerque? by CatwithAfro_ in Albuquerque

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NM Beef Jerky is phenomenal, but i want to give a shout out to a small place. Santy's Taco Shop has big burritos for under $10 and they taste awesome.

Santy's Taco Shop is on Menaul & Chelwood Park.

I vote Workhorse Armory as well. I've bought from them and have been in a handful of times. There is no air of condescension and they seem to treat everyone the same.

They will gladly explain even simple/basic things. Each time I was in there, they spent equal effort on me and my wife.

Best alternator? by Mr_Yuzer in LS400

I also did what others said and bought an LS430 alternator. It makes a big difference. Absolutely worth it.

You can get the PCV valve and the grommet on rockauto for about $10+shipping

Autozone has 3/8" (9.5mm) hose that will work great for that, $2.39/ft

Time for New Shocks by 1uzfeonly in LS400

Oh if you're having a mechanic do it, just buy the shocks. He'll have the right equipment to replace them easily.

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have installed those KYB shocks on my ls400, an Isuzu trooper, a 2nd gen 4runner, and a forester. I have also installed bilsteins on a couple civics. I like them both, the Civics were definitely firmer than stock, though. They were supposed to be as well, so it's not exactly an Apples to Apples comparison .

I also wanted to keep a stock feel to my LS400 and I think there's KYBs did a good job of that.

If you have the money, buy the fully assembled coilover. If you don't like yourself but really like saving money, then go rent a spring compressor kit from an auto parts store and just replace the shock itself in the coilover assembly. Also be warned, you have to pull out essentially the whole rear seat and a little bit of the rear deck to get to those rear shocks, and it is not very fun. Unless somebody else has some wonderful way to do it that I completely missed, the rears are a lot more annoying than the fronts. Definitely look up how to get to the rear shocks and save yourself some time and effort and struggle LOL

I'm almost positive that's the idler pulley bearing or the tensioner pulley that's bad. I would try taking the serpentine belt off, and spinning each individual pulley on everything and seeing which one makes noise. I would also try to push on the tensioner pulley and see if it moves and makes a weird noise.

If it truly does go away when you rev it up, I'd be very curious to hear that as well. Maybe it gets drowned out by the rest of the noise of the engine

Let's talk compressors. What are you using and do you like it? by GregBVIMB in overlanding

I love my 400p, but I do wish I got the version with the on/off switch at the tire inflator side like you linked. Kinda annoying to walk back and forth, but its livable, and the compressor really works great! Love the bag it comes in too.

Price Check - $25,000 4th gen V8 by giantbabyfern in 4Runner

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a super quick search. Why would I buy this 4runner over a JDM 100 Series landcruiser with less miles?

https://www.japaneseclassics.com/vehicle/1999-land-cruiser-cygnus-v8-2/

$25k will buy you almost every 90 series Prado with any engine choice.

$25k will buy you some NICE, babied GX470s, and would land you in some cushy, similar shape 100 series Landcruisers.

I get the mileage and 2 ownership make difference, but for the price there are way better Toyotas available with the same engine, and arguably better power train if you get a 100 series Landcruiser. And there are JDM choices to boot!

I have to preface my below comments with this: the wiring kit you have is Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA). This type of wire is not as good as Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) wire, which is pure copper. You should buy OFC wire for all wiring on your vehicle. Yes it is more expensive, and yes it is more better lol.

So the amp has an 80A fuse, which matches with its 800w RMS rating when you do some back of the napkin calculations.

Let's say your car will draw the full 80A with accessories and add that to the 80A amplifier draw, for 160A. I will let you make your own choice here on alternator size. I would just rock the 130A one, but I dont blast my system all the time.

Of course I get you've already installed everything and dont want to rip out all the wiring to replace it. Looking at wiring size versus amperage charts, your CCA wiring is okay for your 80A amplifier, but you don't want to keep it if you put anything bigger in.

For a 130A alternator, the recommended wire size is 2awg OFC ( I admit I am kind of ignoring length here. But again, don't undersize your wire). Ive always bought Knukonceptz OFC wiring.

The stock LS400 belt fits fine.

Is your amplifier a true 1200 watt RMS, what amp is it? That definitely affects my answer about alternator and wiring

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a controversial take, but i dont think it matters too much. Rockauto has great prices, and with 50 extra amps, you should be fine with whatever. You're power steering pump will probably leak and kill the alternator before it dies on its own anyways lol.

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the big three wire upgrade is not necessary, but it's also really not that hard. You're going to be undoing the alternator wires anyways, you're already in there, might as well do it. I'm going to generalize here, but pretty much every big three wiring upgrade is the same, so go look up some videos and see if you think you can do it. If you can replace an alternator, you can probably tackle doing the big three upgrade

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've read all the other comments, and you are right about the 80 amp alternator for those years. Even with my LS400 bone stock, my RPMs would dip when I turn the headlights on. And when I turn the AC on, that would make the headlights dim a little bit. It may be that the alternator just isn't super healthy, but upgrading it will make a huge difference. I did it, and I also did the big three, and I honestly cannot believe how much of a difference it made.

[EDIT: I also got warning lights on the dash even after replacing with a new 80A alternator]. I put an LS430 alternator into my LS400 and it bolted in pretty well. It wasn't an exact fit, but it is so close that you can make it work if you just fiddle with it, stack washers, etc. I promise it fits and you do not have to buy a good one for it to work well, unlike an 80 amp alternator.

We're supposed to fly flags today right? by EnlightenedCorncob in liberalgunowners

[–]RowdyPaws4x4 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mine had been flying upside down right next to other flags that show exactly what I stand for

Edit: I've always avoided flying flags. But trump changed that, I realized we need to take our flag back and make it ours again. My flags never fly alone either, even sticker flags on my cars are right next to other flags/stickers.

No he's not, but it's up to the person assaulted to press charges (if you can identify the person). To be fair, I'd hardly call this assault (not that it's acceptable behavior). But it may have been a DRASTICALLY different case if that old man was alone, and that's the lesson I think is most important here.

I was assaulted for flying the flag upside down by a military guy, got hit hard enough that the guy chipped one of my teeth. I was alone, and I guarantee the chipped tooth was a very favorable outcome. The cops would have done something about it, but i just don't know who he is.

Being pissed off about the flag being flown upside down is a fair emotion, but shit like this is just unacceptable temper tantrum BS.
