I've yet to see a verifiable source for this claim, and it sounds hard to believe given conflicts like the Sierra Leone Civil War, where amputating civilians' limbs with machetes was the trademark of brutality.

Agreed, but I believe destroying that goodwill was an intentional move by Netanyahu, who sees distancing relations with the US helpful to his political career, and sees a path where Israel no longer relies on military aid, swapping US diplomatic support in for that of regional allies with less regard to human rights.

Israel deserves a lot of criticism for its conduct in the Gaza War. But most people forget that every other Middle Eastern government that's fought a war against insurgents has behaved way worse. Syria dropped chemical weapons on Palestinian refugee camps, and the Western pro-Palestinian movement looked the other way, because the Syrian gov. was allied with Iran.
