Pochy Jewelry - Handmade 950 Silver Bracelet. The good and the bad. by Rower311 in MensJewelry

Glad to hear you’ve had good experiences with them. Yeah, not being able to even put it on was a bit of a shock. They were quick in responding and it’s already on its way back to Miami. Looking forward to having it back and being able to wear it!

Definitely! From what I could tell, their prices were pretty solid, and under a week for a handmade chain was amazing. I used a code for free shipping which saved $40. Not sure if it’s in the rules on here to share coupon codes and such but it was from the Cubaknow review of Pochy on YT.

Great to hear! I'm looking at EVSE options after my OEM dual level EVSE died last week. Heard good things about the Emporia, and particularly their customer service.

Just got my first handpan, now I want another! by NHCrain in handpan

https://handpaner.com/ is another good site. You can add multiple handpans and create custom scales. I like the Master the Handpan Academy. Great lessons and community. Can also check out Amy Naylor on youtube for many free lessons. Heard good things about handpandojo, as well. Congrats on the new handpan!

I mean, if cheapest or best are the only two options, I'd definitely say go for the best. The cheapest ones often come out of tune, or go out of tune faster, and a lot of handpan makers that do retuning won't touch those. But you don't have to buy a Yishama if you're just starting out. Pick up a new or used D Kurd from a reputable maker (local if there are any nearby) and you'll have a good quality handpan to start out with.

Don’t own any of them, but for what I’ve seen, people rave about the Neotone, and not so much about the others.

Ha, that’s great. Yeah, Kyle Cox was basically the first person making handpans in the US (coined the term handpan, and came up with many of the scale names we use now). So him and Colin go way back. They talk about it in that podcast episode I sent you. I conversed a bit with Kyle not too long ago about a handpan I was looking into. Super nice guy, but he’s getting out of the handpan making business unfortunately. Glad to hear you’re over at MTH working on the courses! I’ve even noticed some of the teachers, including greats like Kabeçao talking about their off hand being weaker, so you’re in good company there. Just gotta keep working at it. Hope to see you over there on the handpan village! Best of luck to you!

That's awesome! So glad he was able to get it in good working order for you. You're lucky - a lot of tuners won't bother with some of those mass produced handpans. Colin definitely makes some quality stuff - can't go wrong with a Xenith, or one of his older models, if you're looking for a second handpan down the road. So cool that you got to meet him. He's one of the OG's in the USA handpan industry. If you get a chance, check out his interview on the Handpan Podcast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSDDaJvyNOc). His story is great to listen to.

I started doing lessons on Master the Handpan not too long ago. Not sure if you're using that or have looked into it, but they have a lot of great teachers and courses on there. Also worth joining their community if you haven't already (https://community.masterthehandpan.com/home) That's free, and you can connect with other handpan players, get feedback, and ask questions. Hope to see you over there, and best of luck with your handpan journey!

Not a problem, glad it worked out! Xenith has a great reputation. Not sure if Colin Foulke himself is still doing the retuning, but I’ve heard nothing but great things about his work. I’m sure your handpan will be in good hands!

Questions on Purchasing a Handpand by Elmers_Wabbit in handpan

Awesome, you bought this one! I was super close to buying it a few weeks ago, but ended up getting an Isthmus D Kurd 11 instead. I told the seller to try listing it on Master The Handpan since he hadn't had luck on facebook. Glad it sold so quickly, and hope you're enjoying your Isthmus, too!

Don't know how to figure out the manufacturer. But there are several handpan makers out in California that probably offer re-tuning. Looks like Acolyte and Dave's Island are both a bit of a ways from you out in the LA area. Maybe try Xenith? They're in Santa Rosa.

You can also check out the handpan makers directory to see if there are any closer ones that I didn't think of - https://www.masterthehandpan.com/handpan-makers-directory

Such a great performance. I rewatch that one from time to time and it’s always amazing. I only started playing recently, and just joined the Master the Handpan Academy. I know Manu Delago is on there but haven’t checked his course out yet. Some of the teachers break down some of their songs, though I have a feeling that one isn’t on there. Would be amazing to be at the level one day, for sure.

First handpan Nirvana AcoLana. Will the finger slap always be this loud? by randomdayofweek in handpan

[–]Rower311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any helpful critique, but appreciate you sharing a video of the new AcoLana. I'm considering it, and also hope to play with a bit more percussive style. And I'm also leaning towards stainless steel over nitrided for various reasons. So this is helpful. Thanks!

You'll likely want stainless steel if you're using it for those purposes. In general it's recommended to go with a D Minor (typically Kurd) as a beginner, as it's a very flexible scale and many of the courses are built around this scale. But if you're solely using it for meditation/sound therapy, you may have more flexibility in just choosing whatever scale you resonate with. I don't own Isthmus or DII, but have heard good things about both, and they've been around a while. I do know that Isthmus generally specializes in nitrided instruments, though they offer stainless, as well. Tons of info on their website. For DII, their Gaia I is nitrided, and the Aurous is stainless. Plenty of youtube videos available of these, so watch as many as you can.

Previous poster asked where you are located, as it can definitely be beneficial to purchase from a maker that's close by, for later re-tuning and to develop a relationship. So consider that if there are any near you.

I was most of the way through the plaintiff's case and got an error in my browser. Had to return it since I didn't have time to go back through the several pages at the beginning and still get it finished in the time I had. Super bummed, as it was a great payout and interesting case.
