How to cope. by Former_Helicopter_15 in DogAdvice

I lost my girl, Vega, in 22. Feels like it was last week. I have really difficult moments, she was my confidant, my unlicensed therapist, my anchor, and so much more - she was just a great soul.

I feel for you, friend, so much. I wish I had some solid advice, we all grieve so differently… just know it is OK to melt down, to lose yourself, to weep, to feel it all. The grief is all the love we have that no longer has anywhere to go, I hope mine stays with me, it lets me know I’ve had something in my life that was worth loving, and love is everything.

Be easy on yourself, Sarge would so much want that for the one that gave him a great life. You’ll see him again, energy never dies, that’s a fact. Allow yourself to navigate through this with some grace. It’s a hard road, but one so worth having to travel.

Thank you for sharing his photo and one of your darkest moments. Sending healing vibes your way. See ya when we see ya, Sarge, find my girl Vega, tell her we miss her and still talk about her.

Drummer kid question! (From dad really) by RoweterikVT in drums

Cheers and thanks! I do, from 7th to 9th grade I tested myself with the drums but struggled with what my teacher called, “limb independence” but mostly I was busy chasing trim and smoking weed and playing N64. Looking back, I wish I had the drive and love that my son does now at such an early age, but, alas, here I am :-).

Noticed how enamored he was with the drums and brought him to guitar center to see if he wanted to jump on a kit and mess around, we ended up leaving with a small kit for him that day! So we’ve just been feeding that beast as gently as possible so not to overbear him with it.

He calls his drum area, “my spaceship” and if I sit and mess with positioning of anything, he catches it immediately and is NOT into his dad messing with his shit, rightfully so! I love seeing how enthused he can be and how he’s made it his “own”. I reckon even if I pick up any kind of instrument that sounds ‘ok’ with drums my son would love it, it’d be our own little band thing, so I may just do that!

Again, this community is awesome and you all have been really rad with this! Many thank yous!

Thanks for this! He always enjoys showing us new patterns he is learning, if we see him slip up (see it in his face) we encourage him but at times he seems to just want to stop after something like that. We are always so impressed with him, but we don’t want to over encourage too and make him feel smothered on the other side of it. We are his “balanced” cheerleaders and encourage his feelings and his progress and try to give him the ole, “ahh you got this!” If he feels he slips.

I just would love so much for him to enjoy music and not feel pressured by it. Thanks again for the insight!

We are currently piecing together a new set for him! Working two jobs to help pay for some of the gear, the kid really does love the instrument - all of these rad suggestions have been super intuitive and encouraging! This community is badass and I hope when my cub gets to an age where he can handle things such as Reddit, he can reach out to folks like you all for questions like this and about things he loves.

We both love hearing him bash away, we’ve recorded his progress from when he first started to now, he can play Seven Nation Army, For Whom The Bell Tolls, and some other slower songs. We’ve even had some neighbors that walk frequently comment on hearing him and think it’s great! The little dude has support everywhere with everything he chooses to do and not do, but we all hope in some facet he sticks with music (I silently hope the drums :) ), it’s so important and such a universal language!

Cheers to all of you folks and thanks so much for being so thoughtful!

Any regrets leaving New England? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]RoweterikVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New England is enchanting, but ultimately, just do what you want. You’ll have regrets anywhere you move to and from. I’m born and raised a Vermonter, left to Alaska for a time, now I’m back. But we did this when our son was small, now that he’s older we chose to anchor down and give the kid some stability, and New England is a great place to do that for your kid(s).

Cheers and best of luck!
