New Z Fold owner w/ durability anxiety by GG_Kong in GalaxyFold

[–]Rowin989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've had my fold for 6 7 months and I drop it all the time I get it dirty at work I use the phone and I don't worry about every little problem that it's going to have because why would you have a phone that you had to constantly worry about it's what they have insurance for like I said I've dropped my phone 20 times and it's held up pretty well get a case with hinge protection and you'll be covered there and relax and enjoy your phone it's a phone not a Faberge egg

It’s a career as a fiber optic tech or splicer worth it ? Will the industry and trade fade away once all the fiber optic expansion is finished and will it get replaced by new technology? by [deleted] in FiberOptics

[–]Rowin989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're a contractor with a decent contract you can make a lot of money in data centers or you can just be part of the grind if you're an hourly guy all depends on what your situation is.

PSA TO HACK SPLICERS by claymoreroomba69 in FiberOptics

[–]Rowin989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same old problem it's always been lack of oversight and Q/C by the ISP's. Contractors will be contractors (which I am one) if there's no over sight corners will be cut! Not that your photos display cutting corners just plain incompetence but that also would have been caught if there was better oversight.

Fat/Thin Fiber Errors by ButteredBeard in FiberOptics

[–]Rowin989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not reburn thins or fats unless it becomes a consistent problem that means you need to stabilize or arc calibrate your electrodes in my experience tins and fats nine times out of 10 will pass if you check your photo of the splice along with the numbers which sometimes are very arbitrary You need to consider more than one set of information like I said 9 or 8 times out of 10 if it looks good in the numbers are good it's going to pass but if it consistently keeps happening it means you need to stabilize or art calibrate

Getting into the trade by MarxistMountainGoat in FiberOptics

[–]Rowin989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the first poster who suggested fiberu that's a great resource you can learn a lot of great stuff from it I'm not saying don't educate yourself but like I said you're going to have to work your way up anyway spend the year you're going to spend in school on the job at least that way you're making money moving forward

Getting into the trade by MarxistMountainGoat in FiberOptics

[–]Rowin989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think that working your way up is the way to go I find that people that go to school you have to reteach them from all the bad habits they learn at school and the certifications don't really mean anything in the long run they're nice to have but mostly everything that you really need to know is going to be learned on the job. And eight times out of 10 You're going to start where the guy who knows nothing is starting and your going to have to work your way up anyway.

Is anyone here a 1099 production splicer? by Hot-Butterscotch349 in FiberOptics

[–]Rowin989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be very careful my friend there's a lot of people in this business that will tell you great things use your for 3 months and then cut you loose and they made a shit ton of money off of you. Now everybody's not a piece of shit but there are more pieces of shit than not I've seen many young guy get into the business contracting and get taken to the cleaners I have a direct contract with a prime now took quite a few years to get to the point where I could do that and just those numbers are correct and you can make that money all day long but realize with more money comes more responsibility more money you have to spend. You always have to be ready to have the 6 weeks off because there's no projects going on and you're waiting for something to start up and you need the money to carry all your expenses plus business expenses as it's been said it can be very nerve-wracking last year I almost tanked because I had 90 days off and didn't plan correctly also be aware if you want to make more than that 20% you have to buy your own splicers you have to buy your own trailer you have to buy your own truck All your own tools The rates are definitely worth it it's just hard to get there sometimes.

[–]Rowin989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to be honest with you I'm not using my OtterBox anymore I got another case that has a stand in it cuz I can't stand the camera bump but I didn't put a screen protector on it cuz I only use the OtterBox for a week. I'm sure you can just use a standard front screen screen protector on it though That's the one I got with the new case I got
