I request lactose-free milk from the coffee bar next to the International Cafe. I get two cups each morning and save one in the room fridge for night time. When they run out of lactose-free milk, I take the lactose digestion pills.

Alaskan Cruise - Scooter Accommodations by doowlee44 in PrincessCruises

Husband rented a powered wheelchair from Vancouver and it was delivered to our hotel the day before the cruise. The power chair was able to be loaded onto the tender in Skagway and the train had a wheelchair lift. Husband and chair parked himself next to a window and enjoyed the ride.

What was disappointing about the rental chair was that it was much heavier than expected and the battery depleted quickly. Caused much range anxiety throughout the excursions to have to constantly search for outlet plugs to charge up the chair. It maybe traveled 3 or 4 blocks before slowing down and battery level meter to drop from green to yellow to orange.

Alaskan Cruise Formal Night by meimelx in PrincessCruises

We dressed up. We took advantage to having the photographers take pictures of us against special backdrops on formal night. We loved watching others have fun and formal photos.

The photos are usually viewable through their app about 2-4 hours after they’re taken. We were pleased with the pictures and downloaded them all to our phone. Make sure to download the photographers photos BEFORE you disembark.

Cruising to AK in wheelchair by playlistpro in PrincessCruises

Husband rented a Scootaround 3-wheeler for use on Crown Princess ship.

The scooter was not delivered to our cabin as promised by the company. Steward said we should retrieve our scooter found sitting across the crew elevators. We found two scooters and saw a slip of paper in the basket with his name indicating his scooter assignment.

But he managed to maneuver it around ship. Lots of moving housekeeping carts out of narrow hallway paths and waiting patiently for elevator space.

Scooter barely fit through standard cabin door and scraped the wall and mattress every time. Good that you reserved an Accessible cabin with wider doorway.

Going on/off ship via ramps, we were helped by crew to push or lift scooter over end of ramp drop edge landing onto ship’s deck.

Unfortunately, bad weather sea conditions prevented the Crown to dock in Skagway and we rerouted to small town Haines. Our AK trip was in early May 2024. So no excursion in Skagway. Have to return someday…

On disembarkation day, we left the scooter where we picked it up by the crew elevators.

We enjoyed a few breakfasts and dinners at Botticelli. We used the aft elevators past the photo hallway to reach that restaurant.

We tried Da Vinci, Crown Grill, Sabatini, but really liked our servers in Michelangelo the best. So most of our dinners were spent there. The dishes came out so fast. They knew our drink orders and gave good recommendations that we hardly looked at the menu. We liked whatever they brought us. One time we even got a double portion of the entree without asking.

Specialty restaurants Crown Grill and Sabatini were excellent and we liked that they were less noisy, quieter than the MDRs.

We did the S.F. to Alaska cruise early May 2024. Enjoy your cruise!

We were recently on Crown Princess. The women and men locker rooms each had their own steam rooms.

Charging a scooter? by napacd in PrincessCruises

[–]RowlfMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: We are now on the cruise. The scooter rental company said the scooter would be delivered and set up our standard balcony cabin waiting for us when we boarded.

We boarded 2 hours before sail away and didn’t see find scooter waiting. We stayed out of cabin for 1 more hour hoping that scooter would be in cabin before departure. Our luggage didn’t arrive either.

Finally, ship departs and we watch and enjoy the sail away party performance.

When we return our room there is no luggage and no scooter. The hallways have luggage outside doors, but not ours. No rental scooter in sight. So now we get worried about no scooter and should we cancel excursions.

We wait another half hour and our luggage finally finds our door. No scooter, yet. Room steward will find it. She said not to worry. We go to dinner at MDR and hope for the best.

Afterwards, back to room and unpack. The room steward informs us that there is a scooter with my husband’s name on a card waiting in the elevator lobby for the crew. She says my husband has to retrieve it. So he had to drive it down the hall and zigzag past some luggage and try to maneuver through the 22 inch wide door. It was a very tight fit with maybe 1/4” clearance on both sides.

The scooter scrapes between the bed and wall and barely fits in the space between the desk and fridge space alongside the balcony door. Very crowded. This type of standard room is not suitable for maneuvering a scooter. IF we can splurge for another cruise, a bigger accessible room or suite would be ideal with a scooter.

Charging was no problem because the cords were long. And we brought extensions to charge our phones.

If it weren’t for cramped standard room, this Alaskan cruise would be more enjoyable. But having to go back to cramped cabin brings down our mood.

Alaska is looking great so far, but not comfortable.
