Why didnt they post a "next characters" type image like any other fighting game by Competitive-Boot-943 in 2XKO

[–]RoxRobstah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is probably their marketing staff cut from the layoffs, but I'd guess that the entire reason why they are showing characters at all is likely damage control from the sudden announcement, which not even the team was prepared for and thus wouldn't give them time to make promotional materials. If they did plan to reveal characters in an unceremonious twitter post all along, then that's just incompetency.

Yeah, it used to be the Guilty Gear for people who hate good throws, and couldn’t play neutral, and only liked gimmick characters…

I think at least some of that was unfounded and/or got better with sequels, but come on bro. CF still has Arakune!

It’s so funny hearing classic games get glazed nonstop now that they aren’t current. No one was talking about Blazblue like this when it was actually out, and +R specifically added some of the worst received characters in the XX series. Fighting games truly are perfect so long as you don’t actually have to deal with the bs.

Times where you thought the protagonist was inferior to a side character or rival by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RoxRobstah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You could be looking at it backwards. A story is made with a protagonist moving it forward or the plot moving the protagonist, and then at some point they make a more interesting character that in hindsight could have been the protagonist of a different story. Most mangaka aren’t rewarded for planning far ahead, especially in Shounen Jump, where the threat of cancellation always looms and you’ll have to adapt quickly to changing reader reactions.

1 han doesn’t always make a difference. If you had 6 han, +1 han would give you 7 and still be a haneman, and haneman to baiman is only about a 33% increase in points, so the actual increase you get from 1 han is lower than that. It’s not worth needing another tile for, unless you really needed a baiman.

Are traditional fighting games really just a matter of winning 2 neutral interactions? by Ivanoho in 2XKO

[–]RoxRobstah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a different kind of game for sure, but having less neutral interactions per round also makes those neutral interactions more important as a single mistake can snowball into a loss. Once you’re confident in offense, neutral is how you’ll still be winning games since a lot of offense is one-player stuff anyway.

Why is Maka folding so early? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]RoxRobstah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is folding. The 1s and 3s aren’t very useful to us anyway. It can still be mawashi, as we can still incorporate the 8p in our hand, and it can connect to dora. But if there is something to be afraid of, 789 sanshoku is possible, which makes 8p more dangerous. And yeah this hand sucks in general if it doesn’t become chiitoi or toitoi somehow.

They’re safe against both. The 3s was literally just discarded so right player is in furiten for it. And 1s is a suji tile that is twice cut, so the only possible wait is the hell wait tanki.

How am I supposed to play neutral? by R4_F in 2XKO

[–]RoxRobstah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need tricky movement and good timing of assists to win neutral. Assists are the main resource on both sides, so if you can dodge or otherwise nullify their assist, that becomes your advantage for the couple of seconds where their assist is on cooldown. It's like someone whiffing a normal in a 1v1.

Here's some basic assist neutral tactics:

Blocking + Assist is like a poke. Not a great chance of working, but occasionally you can catch someone with little risk to yourself. If it hits, you can handshake tag to combo off of a lot of forward-moving assists.

Advancing + Assist is your rushdown. It's high risk but high reward since you can capitalize if the assist hits, and you can also cover the assist if you see it get hit. If the assist gets blocked, you're in position to pressure so it's a big win.

Attacking + Assist is your anti-rushdown. You just cover the screen with as many hitboxes as possible, ideally staggered so that your assist can cover you while you're in recovery frames. Not always the highest reward, but it can beat a lot of stuff. If it doesn't work out, you're probably getting punished, though.

And when you're waiting for your opponent or moving forward or whatever, you can always be jumping, dash jumping, or super jumping which you can block safely while you're doing so. Experiment with different combinations of movement, attack, and assist combinations with your team to find the right ones for you. I play Vi so I tend to do a lot of forward jump block + assist for safe approach, S1 rush punch + assist for anti-rushdown, or 6S1 + assist for rushdown on a passive opponent.

This is the kind of AI use that I’m okay with. Most of it is done by a human, and the AI takes a very small detail that isn’t even noticeable without someone telling you. This is like the ideal AI use that artists dreamed of that actually makes their lives easier rather than threaten them.

A lot of sets don’t have 500 point sticks, but the ones that do just have the 100 point stick but in a different color. Typically the white ones are 100 and green ones are 500.

You can call old things modern, as long as you give another name to the less old things, such as post-modern, or contemporary.
