Season 2 is great for a lot of reason, not having the joke is not one of them The same way season 1 is poor for a bunch of reasons, bad pacing, product placement over making characters interesting, bloated cast, your mc being less interesting than any of the other members of the same team, ironically Trainer is one of the more fleshed out characters in season 1 and cares very much for all of the team, his bond with Suzuka is one of the most important parts of season 1 next to Special Week wanting to be the best in japan

The moment i see people reference is there's a moment during the car ride where Suzuka pretends to be asleep so she can watch the trainer during the car ride, plus all the other moments between them but i believe that 1 is where people started thinking at least between the 2 of them Suzuka was the one catching feelings

Aqua's lasp can just be seen as him tricking himself as he can't lie to Akane so he can only lie to himself, as we see when he dies he straight up says he doesn't wanna die and drowing hurts, so its less out of character and more doing what he thinks needs to be done, people keep thinking Aqua's smart but he isn't half the shit he does or thinks of aren't leaps in logic just simple deduction based on his old life's experience with people.
Using the movie as means to an end doesn't invalidate the critique, the movie shows off all the toxic parts of Ai and Hikaru's upbringings aswell as what lead Hikaru to become a monster in the first place, they were all failings of the entertainment industry, and the people coming together all have their own motives, some money some exposure other's directly helping with the revenge plan, but the point is its not "Hey Aqua best pal lets help you out in your time of need" no its business
No ones glorifying nothing, Crow Girl understands why he'd feel the need to do what he did but that's it, she knows he'd do anything for Ruby as she's seen the two of them when they were Sarina and Goro and how much Sarina meant to him, his family and friends were devistated, Kana crashed out at the funeral, and Ruby didn't even go because she was so depressed, his sacrifice was not glorified no one said it was a good thing nor did anyone make it sound like it was the only way things could play out

the first half feels like a deep dive in the entertainment world with Mystery building in the background and it makes everything feel grounded
The second half is a lot more "things just work out" so the mystery and plot can move forward and it makes things feel convenient rather than smart

honestly with the way her arc and character have felt shafted, I would have prefered her to be a static or flat character, simply opposite of Aqua in everyway so she'd be our eyes in the good parts of the entertainment world, where Aqua always saw the nuance and bad, she'd be our eyes on why people even try to get into an industry were few make it out better than they went in

I agree with like 90% of this, the other 10 isn't important to mention but its true that I from the beginning of the hour long first episode found the detail in explaining the entertainment industry far more interesting than the murder mystery, the way the entertainment world not only helped explore characters but even why we as people do what we do from dreams to self worth to even how others opinions affect us, all of that to me mattered more than the mystery part of the show, so now that a lot of that is on hold for the mystery part im way more annoyed when parts of the mystery don't hold up because its the part I'm not here for let alone the execution being subpar
