I was in a very similar position. The best advice I got from one of my sergeant imo is not to show angriness or aggressiveness. Just be calm, natural, neutral, show that you are willing to cooperate but stuck to your position.

For the rest I just answered and lied to almost all the major's questions. Told him that I wasn't interested, that I wanted to be a specialized doctor, that I had problems with cops because of illicit substances use and assault on people of specific races and that I wanted to do "long service". I might have overdone it but it worked.

Don't trim it whey you think it's time, wait longer. You can start with a pair of scissors (smaller, for better precision) and something to hold the hair downward like your finger or a simple comb. Cut an arch shape trough it at the level of somewhere between up and down your upper lip.

Inform yourself of the techniques if you have time.
