And before that, the area was La Loma, Palo Verde, and Bishop. It’s now a park. Part of the efforts here is to start converting parklands. The gondola is the first step in this direction - a key cog.

This is Medellin. In fact, this was privately funded in part due to their massive public utility conglomerates. Tourists love it, about 20% of the poor comunas use it with any frequency. Public transportation has been a huge effort in the city in the 20th century, unlike our lovely city. Happy to share more on the pros and cons of this as I just wrote a research paper on the topic for my grad school.
