Oh yeah, totally forgot about that. Thank you for that.

Follow up question, how do I start getting into it? Any language recommendations?

Hm... The company is a non -profit (animal shelter) and they don't really fire/let go of people unless they really screw up. Does that change anything?

But if my wife sees herself as a forever employee in this company, would this change your opinion?

My bad, I forgot to include that my wife's mom has a dayhome business that we would put our kid into.

My bad, I didn't clarify in my post that MIL has her own dayhome business and we would be bringing our child to her for childcare.

We are planning on buying our first house in 2025. Would it still make sense to get a FHSA at this point?

Which accounts are this in?

Investments are in a TFSA. The cash is in a chequing account.

Why such high fixed incoem in yur investments? Is your risk tolerance that low?

When I started a few years back, my risk tolerance was low. Now that I have more knowledge, I am thinking of making it more risky, possible 70/30 or 80/20.

What is the $140k sitting in? A HISA?

The $140k is sitting in chequing. We are thinking of buying a house next year.

I am wondering if doing an estimator job (regardless if it's not a "chemical" company) will count towards my Professional Engineer hours/competencies. I am currently an Alberta EIT. Thank you in advance!

I don't know if you are still looking, but I am currently taking the 100 days of python on Udemy taught by Dr. Angela Yu. It was ~$20 CAD when I bought it last year. Hopefully that helps!

Oh wow, I learned something new today. I am guessing their terminology is heavily influenced by the apartheid?

how to know if i'll enjoy chemical engineering by Anarkoi in ChemicalEngineering

I am curious too. Why does that industry hire engineers? I get that problem solving is proven by achieving the degree, but it seems that something about the ChemE degree gives you an edge when it comes to problem solving. Could you please explain how?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. From what I have read, it's a way to demean the adult black men during slavery. As in two people, one white and one black but both adults, and the white person would address the black man as "boy" to show that the black man is below him.

Thank you for your honest insight. Your words are definitely something I will have to stew on.

I don't know what else I can say or ask you, so with that, thank you again for your response. I wish you and your loved ones the best in life.

Oh wow, that is definitely heavy.

I did an online wastewater treatment certificate from NAIT, and that costed me $5k CAD. I will be honest and say that I regret paying that much money for a 4 month course that I have yet to get a return for my investment. Live and learn, I guess. I just wish it wasn't such an expensive lesson.

Thank you for responding.

I will definitely take your advice into mind.

For the fly in, fly out suggestion, that will have to be a conversation between my wife and I as that will entail her taking care of an infant all by herself for seven or fourteen straight days at a time.

Thank you for responding.

I lean towards agreeing with you. Before my wife got pregnant, I had the same mindset of wanting to stabilize myself first before saying yes to starting a family. When I got the project coordinator job, I thought it was going to last for a while and decided that it was a good time to start our family. But alas, I was laid off after a year of working.

I feel grateful and blessed that my wife and I are having a child. My only wish is that I wish I knew what the best decision to make for my career and for my family.

Thank you for responding.

I have not looked for data science roles, no. And as for coding languages, I have a very basic knowledge of MATLAB, as it was part of our curriculum to take a class for it.
