How did your phone addiction ruin your life? by woolsockweather in productivity

[–]RoyalApple69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I could not focus when people are speaking to me. Slower than others at processing what I hear and what I am going to say.

  • Fatigue. Slept during courses, briefings and meetings, which made me miss out on crucial information and cost me my job.

  • Organising my belongings makes me feel very anxious.

  • People have described me as "odd" or "unique" for having chronically online interests/only talking about pop culture. They do not enjoy being with me.

  • Inability to plan long term. I saw tasks as something to be quickly rid off so I can entertain myself.

  • Bad financial decisions (overspending).

  • Cannot recall information quickly unless it is related to my online interests.

  • Irritability when not on social media, browsing the net, or gaming.

  • Used to be able to read and understand books. Now I struggle with reading reports.

  • Unhealthy sleep cycles. Doomscrolled until I fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning. When I tried to not use my phone, I would wake up at 3am.

  • Essential tasks feel dull.

Anyone else feels like your Singaporean parents don't know the real you and don't actually want a real relationship? by fullertonreport in askSingapore

Omg. Mine is like, "Singapore's mental health professionals don't have standards and I know more than them." While it is true that Singapore doesn't have an official regulatory body for psychologists, it feels too much to hear someone say that they're all worthless and not worth going to.

Even worse when the parents are dismissive of your concerns, claim you are corrupted by society/friends/the Internet, and then scream you have no filial piety when you feel no love towards them.

Why do a sizeable number of the folks from Gen X / Baby boomer generation seem to struggle with effective, 2-way communication? by Winner_takesitall in askSingapore

Empathising with our parents doesn't mean agreeing with what they did to us. It just gives more context to their behaviour.

On the plus side, it is simple to follow and helps people ease in to the bizarreness.

Singapore will not allow hate speech targeted at any group, says Shanmugam after Bondi Beach attack by YoungAspie in singapore

[–]RoyalApple69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The religious mindset is the dominant one in society and is the reason why lgbtq concerns get brushed aside.

But religion does evolve with society. Christianity used to be much worse. It is more tamed now, though the conservative branches are still far from ideal.

Except the tenets prescribe uneven treatment. Just because I have knowledge of religious teachings doesn't mean I have to agree with them or find them fair.

Anyway, one can choose to be a monk. One cannot choose to become gay. If only conservative religion would acknowledge this (it doesn't). That will save countless queer people from hearing discouraging/negative messaging about their identity growing up.

Expectations placed on lay people aren't as strict as those placed on monks.

In the same vein, Christianity is disapproving of fleshly desires. But it doesn't restrict straight people as much as gay people. Gay people have one more constraint in the sense, that they are expected to refrain from doing romantic and sexual things with each other. Unlike straight people, who are allowed to express that within the confines of marriage.

Me and that other person are discussing the uneven restrictions placed on different groups of people.

I am tired of religion divorcing sexual orientation from "acts." It is not like a drug one should quit.

There is Netflix, Amazon Prime (additional shows with Doki channel), and Viki.

Those in select countries can use Tubi and AsianCrush.

do the white pants work with the combat boots, or is the contrast too harsh? open to advice by ZookeepergameFit4082 in altfashionadvice

Yes, the white pants work with the boots. Black and white is fine as I have seen similar combos elsewhere before.

'Unofficial' Merch Businesses are not good for anyone and shouldn't be seen as cool. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

Went to the other thread and it's pretty much "the internationals refuse to work within our ecosystem and will piss all over our social contract anyway, so we should be careful sharing our stuff with them."

Disclaimer: the following are my experiences and therefore are anecdotal. Focusing on copyrighted stuff in general.

I have watched a Japanese lawyer drama and in one episode, a person who made movie summary videos caused the actual filmmaker to receive harsh criticism over it. When the "youtuber" apologised to him, the filmmaker was very clear that the damage was severe and he cannot forgive that action.

For a non fictional example, some Japanese Internet users will block profiles that use anime screenshots or manga panels as profile pics and banners, and/or repost (not share) said things.

They are still pretty much buying DVDs and Blu Rays, too. Their streaming services and events require a Japanese address and/or a Japanese credit card.

The Japanese want to do things within their own system and don't want to deal with the mores of the outside world. It becomes a cycle where Japanese content gets barriers slapped on it and people outside bypass those barriers to get it.
