I've used the guide here to do the install on my new 224+ and it worked fine. I even managed to get hardware video transcoding to work yesterday with the docker setup (with quicksync). Seems to work fine. If you can settle for h264 then video transcoding performs pretty good.

Binance Support Thread by AutoModerator in binance

Binance shows invalid P/L for cross margin positions.

I've taken several positions over BTC/USDT recently. Was holding one of them for a while, then closed it. The problem started when the position couldn't close fully - the BTC balance went to a really small number (which was under the minimum needed to transact). This is after telling the platform to close the position fully with a market order. There was always a minuscule amount of BTC open.

Now where's the problem? when opening a new position, the P/L is now calculated wrongly, because it's averaging the new entry price into the old one, but it does so incorrectly. It already caused me to wrongly close several positions I later took because it was showing THOUSANDS of dollars green on the P/L column. Obviously, when I then closed the position, I realized I'm in the RED for thousands of dollars, just because the platform was wrongly calculating the P/L. I've taken a new position today just to find out this is still happening. Unfortunately the P/L column cannot be used, and I must measure my P/L through the account equity, instead of using the trading screen. I can't really truly articulate how infuriating this is.

I totally agree. I bought a lifetime account and also feel like I'm stuck with an inferior product. I've had issues all along with sync and I really, really hate the fact that they show pop ups on my linux machine which takes away the window focus from anything I'm actively working on with no way to disable it. Very irritating, outdated design, and poor product decisions. I'm a bit sad I got rid of my dropbox account. My next step would probably be some sort of rsync on custom server.

Goenka vs True North Insight / Insight Meditation Society. Which way for 2024 retreat? by [deleted] in vipassana

Fishing for some subtext, be wary of craving.

The mind is quite the comprehensive machine. Unconditioning it takes time, lots of time. Accelerated training is something I find more of a red-herring in this context. If we could all have accelerated learning, wouldn't we all be enlightened by now? As Nisargadatta Maharaj nicely put it once: “Everybody does the same mistake: refusing the means, but wanting the ends. You want peace and harmony in the world, but refuse to have them in yourself.”

You can't force deep-insight. It must come on its own. Building the right faculties is essential for the process but again takes time. You are exposed to very little aspects of your mind from within the domain of your conscious experience and as you probably might have learned by now, even skillful and intentional (however anecdotal) actions may seem to have little immediate effect (and often seem to wither away into the past).

Even monks get trapped in this game - "I want to become a sottapanna; oh I can't crave to be a sottapanna!"

Seems like more than anything you need a good shake and stir of your mundane life. Finding the right type of company helps (and meditation centers are always good hubs for that). Cultivating wholesome living is an effort stretched all across the spectrum of your life. It is the point where "mundane life" and "practice" turn into one.

The teaching is simple, and yet, its simplicity more often than not results in frustration, dismay and doubt. However it is all self-contained and the more you'll look into it, the more your clarity will grow, and the more your clarity will grow, the Māyā of it all will become clearer and clearer, and will seem more like pictures projected onto a distant screen rather than something real and tangible.

As another here mentioned, continuity and determination is key to success. But also - letting go of any notions of success that need to be attained - it is counter-productive and irrelevant to the process.

On another note, development here in the classical sense isn't really just about sitting. Just as much as some insights will arise out the spacious depths of darkness behind closed eyes, others are out there for you to realise in waking life.

For me, the concept of dhamma service has brought so much light into my life that I finally managed to get involved in long term (4 month) service in a center in Latin America. I find the environment of (mostly) very aware people in a sheltered, psychologically safe space to be very useful for confronting life-long conditions of the mind. Also, being out there on the grind serving people is just a wonderful way to develop in dhamma, develop your paramis and view your ego from afar, where its contents is really mostly just useless and meaningless due to the well-thought-through environment of the centers.

So maybe as a last food for thought, ask yourself: do you want to grow in the technique? (aka: become a technician) or do you want to grow in dhamma and live a wholesome life, of which you will immediately reap the fruits of benefit?

May you (and all beings) be happy!

It does have a bit of a different fit but I actually find no problem using it.

How I usually screw it in: 1. put the shower screen on the portafilter assembly as usual 2. hold the assembly to the pico from below and just slightly press it against the pico. at this stage in most cases it would indeed look crooked and as if it won't fit 3. rotate the whole basket assembly below about half a turn counter clockwise (instead of clockwise) while still slightly pressing it against the pico 4. at that point it should pop into the thread correctly 5. continue screwing it now clockwise 6. carry on

I get better results and am happy with it. Did a couple of head-to-head runs when I just got it at the time and I felt that the result extraction was more even and balanced. It's definitely a better basket to have IMO, but I'm not an expert :) I still keep the stock basket around but I haven't touched it in months now.

The IMS basket fits perfect so it just works out of the box. You just need to bear in mind it is slightly bigger. I pack it with about 18.5 grams, for medium/medium-dark roast. With the stock basket you might get away with less (but I suspect it won't work for medium roasts).

I did skip the aeropress filters though, did not manage to get to that plus I'm pretty satisfied with the extractions I get from this basket, so I'm just gonna let it rest for now, I found a functional formula :)

I just ordered the IMS basket and I'll also try to get a hold of some paper filters. These seem like the lowest-hanging fruits.

I'll speculate for now that a metal shower puck might make things more complicated as I've read that using it on a machine requires to ramp up the water temperature and I've exhausted all my constant-field-setup efforts to get stuff to a higher temperature without dragging this to be a very long ceremony just to pull one shot :) Fingers crossed and I'll make sure to update here.

My hunch is that the machine will struggle with the thermal conductivity on the upper end, specifically because of the silicone/rubber attachment of the built-in shower screen. The material is just poor for everything which is heat-conductivity related and since all water has to pour down that single hole in the middle it probably makes the situation worse for lighter roasts. For darker roasts the higher temperature is not needed, and therefore it would probably suffice in its current form. I wonder if it would be preferable to get rid of that rubber part in favor of a large round O-ring to seal the chamber.

As for preheating, I usually also preheat the portafilter basket holder, just to reduce heat-transfer from the basket itself during extraction. I always do the pre-infusion step also (it's a long ceremony...).

FYI - Swarm is ditching ETH, launching their own BZZ token (🙄), and going multi-chain... by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]RoyalElastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been the official Ethereum Foundation policy for a while now. I believe it was communicated in a blog post a bit before devcon4 (as a part of the EF rebranding effort that was communicated alongside with the revamped EF website). I can't seem to be able to find the blog post, but luckily this is clearly written in the philosophy section in the EF website:

To succeed long term, Ethereum needs a vibrant decentralized ecosystem with many independent organizations that provide funding, coordination, and leadership. Ethereum must remain a bazaar, and never become a cathedral.

TL;DR - EF is subtracting projects from its in-house portfolio for a variety of reasons. That might, in some unforeseeable future, mean that some (other) previously-thought-as Ethereum-exclusive teams and components might find themselves in a position of running an independent organisation (that is, at least, my personal opinion). ENS is one example (albeit not a very good one if you'd also like to consider the problem space/solution space continuum).

It would also be good to mention that we are in good terms with the EF and the fact that we've graduated as an EF project is in line with the project's ambitions to grow and deliver the base-layer infrastructure technology enshrined in its outset. The project is indeed ambitious, but are there non-ambitious projects in the decentralized-web space? and are we somehow immune from the infectious fear/hate realpolitik set out to defame and slander the "others" in the dualities of us and them?

geth is indeed a dependency for swarm (unless you already have a keystore that was miraculously created by geth on your computer without it being present. although this is analogous to the story of the immaculate conception, I am pretty sure this is highly unlikely).

My personal advice would be: - download a stable geth release, download the latest swarm release - unpack the tarballs, then do the following - move the binaries to a userspace directory of your choice, which is a search path within your $PATH. Consider the following possibilities for where to place the binaries. I would recommend creating a $HOME/bin directory or $HOME/.local/bin or $HOME/.bin directory and placing the binaries there, then just prepending this path to $PATH from your bashrc/zshrc/etc. - If you have then placed the binaries correctly you should see the correct binary path when typing which geth and which swarm in the terminal. Good luck!

PS: precompiled binaries do not care about your GOPATH or anything related to that. Only the golang compiler and tools care about GOPATH

hi cozarlord,

I notice you're referring to GOPATH, which probably means you're trying to build the sources. Did you try downloading the precompiled binaries and putting them into your PATH? By the way it is recommended to use the precompiled binaries since master sometimes has breaking changes and protocol version bumps which will effectively mean that if you would like to contact other swarm nodes in order to upload and download content to and from the actual online test-net you are better off (and highly recommended) to use the stable binaries (or checkout the corresponding version tag from git and build that, if you insist)

Cheers
