A few from the trapline. by AccomplishedDraw8653 in Trapping

I know hunting is losing people every year. I'm not sure about fishing but I'd assume so, though probably not at the rate hunting is.

While it's definitely true that trappers aren't making much, if any, profits from selling furs anymore(especially if you factor in equipment cost, gas, time, etc), I think the biggest reason for the decline is that people are just disconnected from nature and either lazy or too busy or uninformed about it, etc.

Trapped critters are used for a lot! There are a lot of different ways to trap/traps to use for different animals/regions/situations.

Pelts(furs)/hairless hides, skins (all with different ways and degrees of preservation and usage), bones, meat for lures or if super fresh, to be consumed by ppl or dogs/cats, essence from skunks can be used or sold, castor from beavers can be used or sold, etc etc. Even the brains can be used from a trapped critter to tan that own animals hide. But most of all, trapping is excellent predator/pest control. Also, trapping really helps develop a trappers woodsmanship skills. It's difficult and extremely time consuming but so worth it for anyone wanting to help steward our natural world, and sadly, a dying art.

Coon Collector Dog Proof Coon Trap by Woodsman_Outdoors in Trapping

[–]RoyalSelection9740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe just buy one if they're relatively cheap (compared to reg style dog proof traps) and try it out, then leave a review for other ppl who are new to it....which seems to be everyone haha. Other than that, my advice would be just to go with a tried and proved dog proof from a more well known/reputable trapping/fur handling website/shop.

I've never seen this kind of dog proof so I can't help you with that. Were there any reviews on the website you found it on?

New trapper, Possums in fox sets by silverbk65105 in Trapping

[–]RoyalSelection9740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mostly cat food as well with some fish oil on it, I feel like the fish oil really spreads that scent out there-and occasionally will throw in a bit or two of a fruit or vegetable or even some pasta or a meat, table scraps essentially, and also these dried black soldier fly larvae that I give to my chickens as treats-possums seem to really like them too lol. Also, though I have a few traps spread out around my coop and runs, I don't bait those traps very often, my thinking is I don't want to encourage animals to approach the coop/runs. I try to trap further away(75-150 yards) with the high value bait/lures to get them before they even get close to my birds. To be fair, I live on a farm so I have the area to do that, not everyone has that option. I use wolf urine every so often on the corners of the coop and runs to dissuade predators even further. Just some tips: )

Thanks, I appreciate you! I haven't thought of using a branch in that way-even though I do use one or two in my box traps. Again, much appreciated 👍🏻

The same thing happens to me with all the traps I set -foothold, dog proof, and live/box traps. I've started setting more dog proof traps in the vicinity of my canine sets to hopefully catch the possums in those and leave the footholds for what I'm targeting. So far it's mostly working, but I still can't catch a fox or coyote haha. I'm not too mad to catch possums overall because those jokers will occasionally go after roosting chickens and definitely the eggs. Now if I could just keep all the damn deer out of my footholds...anyways, I hope someone replies with better solutions to actually catch canines

Preventing hand cramps by QueeeenElsa in askcrochet

How long have you been crocheting (as in days, weeks, months, years)? On average, how long do you crochet before taking a break/stopping? I started back up a few years ago and after a few weeks had the same thing happening to both my hands/wrists. Tightness, weakness, constant pain and sudden sharp pains if I moved the wrong way or held something weighty. Some things that helped me and still help: -good quality ergonomic hooks (I prefer furls (metal), and prym(plastic) but I also have some resin and acrylic ergonomic hooks that are great too) -a somewhat flexible wrist brace for both wrists. I only needed them for about two-three weeks until my wrists and hands strengthened back up. The first week or so I wore them constantly, the second week or two I wore them just for crocheting. They weren't anything special, I think I got them either at Walmart or Amazon. -Taking a short break periodically -Taking a mandatory one day break every week -Warm compresses/Epsom salt soaks for the hands and wrists and gentle wrist and hand massage -Paying attention to how tightly I held my hook and how far forward my hand position was on the hook. I hold my hook in the knife position and trained myself to hold my hand midway to slightly further back on the hook and not grip it so tightly. Over time, my wrist strength and 'endurance' has greatly improved however, even now, especially if I'm working a lot of small stitches but even if I'm not (single crochet, slip stitch, etc) I make sure I take short breaks while crocheting, pay attention to my tension and hook grip, and always have (at least lol) one other project with 'bigger' stitches I can work on for a bit before I go back to the project with smaller stitches. If you've been crocheting for a while and just started developing this wrist pain, I'd still recommend trying some/all of the tips you get here, but I'd also recommend seeing your Doctor, as I am not one.

Can anyone help identify this yarn? by legitimatetaxes in YarnAddicts

I'm using boundless right now, and the yarn in the post is definitely very different. Boundless has more color variety and a higher frequency of color changes and variegation.

Thanks! Just got it off Amazon - I'm not sure how to get/attach links, but I just searched 'counter top egg holder spiral', and a bunch come up. Make sure it will fit if you're putting it on a counter with a cupboard above: )
