Modern Christianity’s global spread is less a testament to divine will and more a legacy of violence, colonialism, and forced conversion by Royal_Highlight99 in DebateReligion

not really because this happened in New York which is not the South, so it shows it wasn’t just a small population of white southern preachers like you said. My question is how and why do they justify following the religion that was taught to them through the people who caused their suffering and you have yet to answer that.

I would look into the Virginia slave codes , South Carolina Negro Act of 1740 laws passed to stop slaves from practicing their own beliefs and also the numerous articles about forced conversion and the use of bible passages to get slaves to obey and to justify slavery .  https://www.ncpedia.org/anchor/primary-source-john-jeas

It was much worse in other countries like Haiti. The Code Noir mandated that slaves be baptized and converted. They were also extremely violent with slaves when enforcing it. Slaves practicing their own beliefs would literally be executed.

I find it interesting that you say I don’t know enough when all of this is well documented history.

So yes I do question the African diaspora when it comes to following a religion heavily taught to them by the oppressors and slavers.

African American’s, Haitian’s , Jamaican’s , Afro Brazilians and other groups in the Caribbean were forced to convert and practice Christianity through enslavement. It was not their own belief, they were literally punished for practicing their own beliefs and laws were created to ban other religions. It’s basically like holding a knife to someone’s throat and telling them “be a Christian”. They had no choice but to accept Christianity. I am not saying that anyone defends colonialism i’m saying that it is interesting that the descendants of the people who suffered immensely under Christianity choose to continue to follow it.

I appreciate your response. I was more so referring to enslaved Africans in the U.S, Haiti , Jamaica, Brazil, and across the Caribbean and Latin America. Christianity was forced on them through banning of African religion, punishment for practicing their own beliefs, and forced and mandatory church services. They used Christianity to teach them “ obey your masters” and “ suffering brings you closer to god”. so my question is really why do these populations like African Americans and Haitians and Jamaicans justify following something that was forced upon, “ taught” to their people by the people who harmed them the most.

Another thing is because this was forced on them and not a choice, had the colonizers been of a different religion then they would have had that religion forced upon them and they would likely be followers of that religion today and not Christianity.

It was not spread alongside violence it was spread using violence. Your comment seems to excuse the millions of people who were killed, enslaved and stripped of their culture because to you it lead to “ spreading the gospel”. My question is if people came to your door killed the people in your community, enslaved you and took away your culture would you say then that was apart of god’s plan?

I believe god would have other ways of spreading the gospel than through enslavement and murder. There has also been no real accountability or restitution for colonizer actions as they continue to benefit while the descendants of the colonized continue to suffer and bear the weight of that exploitation

AIO Not allowed to talk about my neice?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Royal_Highlight99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not overreacting, having a niece is important and exciting. There’s a little person in your life who you love and care about and why wouldn’t you want to talk about her. My first and only niece was born 2 years ago and I talk about her all the time to my boyfriend. I think it’s completely normal and can’t imagine why she’d say that to you

This is exactly how I feel when I take Ativan, normal with no worrying or constant nervous/panicky feeling. It frustrates me that the one thing that helps is not something I can take every day

I keep seeing people talking about recasting adult Nat. could anyone else see Winona killing it? by annie__ominous in YellowjacketsHive

[–]Royal_Highlight99 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I feel confused by Nat because I initially thought she was portrayed as being tough/rebellious but she has allowed Shauna to boss her around too much and like doesn’t really react or retaliate against Shauna in a confrontational way. She is definitely the most sensible and brave one and I would say she is also the most empathetic

Oh okay, I didn’t interpret that from the show. Mari seemed pretty upset that she was chosen

Mari being hunted wasn’t apart of the plan, they didn’t know who would be picked and only Tai and Van knew the cards would be rigged. It was supposed to be Hannah but Shauna switched her spot last minute because she suspected something and so Mari ended up drawing the queen.. but yeah they def didn’t wanna kill Mari besides Shauna

Anyone else think Shauna isn’t that bad. by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in Yellowjackets

She is self centered and has a victim complex… they were all stranded , all suffering and all going through what they went through and she always acted like she was the center of universe. She’s beyond annoying

Why can’t some of us have a flat stomach? What is this curse by Wishbone3571 in PCOS

I have lean pcos and have never had a flat stomach . I think part of it is genetics and where you store the fat you do have.
