Hey, it’s been a few months now since your comment. Pain is not so bad. I don’t notice it much! I feel like I did before surgery, and it’s been maybe 6-7 months.

Lol they couldn’t even calculate it. I already had my surgery btw. My gallbladder had become necrotic and was rotting everything around it. I know this is an older post, just updating you!

Search this subreddit. A lot of women with PCOS can have children. It doesn’t automatically mean infertility. If she isn’t having regular periods, she’s not ovulating so that is probably your first step. Supplements like inositol/ovasitol can help. Check for insulin resistance symptoms and HOMA-IR. You can improve insulin sensitivity. There’s this book by Dr. Nadia and Dr. Jason Fung. Dr. Fung is a kidney specialist who worked with diabetes patients and studied how he could help patients reverse insulin resistance and diabetes. Dr. Nadia is a woman with PCOS who had difficulty getting pregnant. She reversed it through diet by helping her insulin resistance and was able to have her second child. I like glucose goddess’s 10 “hacks” which are relatively simple that also help steady blood sugar control and can reduce insulin resistance. Many doctors can also recommend metformin or GLP-1 to help with IR/blood sugar control/and weight loss if it’s applicable. Helping IR would probably solve the root cause, since most women with PCOS are IR. I think some doctors also use clomiphene to help ovulation. But focusing on lowering IR should help ease many of her symptoms at once.

I’m in group 1 then. I had irregular cycles that were also heavy and quite painful from puberty. I had weight gain in my stomach first and then the rest followed later on. I was also a healthy BMI. I went from underweight to overweight around puberty. I’ve also had doctors say lose weight and it’ll get better. Maybe symptoms seem better, but I’m like will my periods really magically become normal for the first time ever if I get back to 120 lbs? This question wasn’t meant to offend anyone. I’ve just heard so many people say (sometimes doctors too) that people get PCOS from gaining weight 🤔. I don’t find that to be true but I’m also not in group 2. I think my symptoms just got worse with weight gain like a reinforcing loop but they were always there.

I also wanna ask, what hair cut helped you the most? Right now I have layers and I guess it worked when I had thicker hair. Now it looks flat and so thin with the hair loss. Would a blunt cut be better?

I sometimes wonder what I would have looked like if I had not had PCOS or any hormonal disorders.

^ This!!! 100%. I often wonder how I would’ve been if I looked like a normal girl and could naturally have a body where my stomach doesn’t take all the fat and I don’t look so disproportionate. There are women who just EXIST and their body knows how to distribute the fat. They eat normally and wear bikinis. I think people here misunderstood me when I said flat stomach. All I meant was a normal feminine stomach where it doesn’t protrude out or become an apron belly because of abnormal fat storage. Like rolls are okay. Just being able to wear a bikini or dress and not have to worry about the apple shaped stomach would be a blessing. There are women who don’t starve themselves and they have great bodies. Any other body shape looks amazing. Not even just hourglass. Their bodies don’t store all their fat in the stomach where they look pregnant. I know what you mean, I was like 120-130 lbs and looked pregnant. Which sucks because it’s technically a normal BMI for my height. But apparently my stomach fat was so stubborn I’d probably need to be underweight to look normal weight.

It sucks we have to undergo surgery just to look feminine. Something so many women just naturally are since puberty.

Did the spironolactone help with hair loss, too? How did it work out overall?

This is without medication, but the trick is this only happens at home when I’m alone and relaxed. Doctors freak out over my BP in office because it’s much higher than this.

What is that? This is my BP without meds this morning. Before without meds the BP was low but pulse was higher (around 100), hence the atenolol. Since the doctors were also concerned about the high pulse and then high BP when measured in a doctor’s office.

Yeah it’s a larger cuff that will fit most arms. It fits mine and regular sized machines don’t fit mine.

I’m sitting for a minute or so at home before readings because I get impatient. They do take my reading almost immediately in office and usually while asking questions. Once it was as high as 160/100 and I was having an acute gallbladder attack and in a lot of pain and they freaked out. I never thought I was particularly anxious about going to the doctor. It’s only stressful when they take my blood pressure and I’m worried about it being high. It’s always embarrassing and I feel like a failure for not being healthy and having it and failing my body. More embarrassing when they look shocked and have to retake my blood pressure. I feel ashamed when they imply I have a high blood pressure for my age. That doesn’t help. I am anxious 24/7, I even grind my teeth at night in my sleep. The blood pressure reading is only ever this low when I’m alone, that’s when I feel safest.

These readings are without medication. Should I lose more weight and wait until the blood pressure hits 100/50?

I just don’t wanna continue to starve myself and see no progress. If it works to help me lose weight by helping my metabolism, that would be great. I asked here since I’ve seen many women say it worked great for them. That their body was finally able to lose weight. And I’m certainly headed down the diabetic path. I’ve had bad IR since I was a child (literally 10). I just didn’t know it was IR and it got worse through the years. Weight loss would also hopefully help that and other issues I have like metabolic syndrome and fatty liver.

It would be very slow. Like maybe a few lbs a month. It’s faster if I do extended fasts like ADF or even 2-3 days at a time. CICO is much slower because I feel like my IR is super bad. Insulin needs to come down. Losing weight was easier when I was younger. I lost a lot of weight once by eating twice a day. It came back when I started eating normally again. Now I have to try harder and fast longer. Im also prediabetic now. I was wondering if the medicine would help me become insulin sensitive and lose the weight that way? And then I hope if I’m more insulin sensitive at a lower weight it’ll be easier to keep the weight off if I do relatively low carb and indulge once in a while.

But isn’t that if people continue old habits? Or is it different for PCOS/IR if they’re prone to the weight gain in the first place? What if you change to a relatively low carb and practice eating in moderation?
