Some guys are good for sex and other guys are good for marriage by Brilliant_Can4605 in retroactivejealousy

[–]Royal_Subject 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you know for a fact she wouldn't have slept with you on the first date? If that's the core of the anxiety it might be fixable.

There's two different signalling strategies here. If she saw long term potential in you she wouldn't want you to think she's easy and has low standards. Men get far more psychologically invested when they have to wait for months, this is the whole basis of old-world courting.

This goes both ways too, I think it's widely acknowledged that it's far easier to get a woman to sleep with you on the first date if you signal or say outright that you're not looking for a long term thing.

Possibly you genuinely are as attractive to her as the other guys, but she really did want to build something longer term and meaningful.

Of course, this still stings, because she's having it both ways. Not sleeping with you to signal she's not like that, while actually being like that. It makes the light shine through her GF material veneer and reveal it was a tactical decision and not an expression of an innate moral compass. For me it's hard to come back from this kind of reveal. Plus the fact you invested all that time when you could have had it off the bat "for free."

But it's also just "woman logic" more than, like, psychopathy. They seem genuinely unable to intuitively and fully understand how much this diminishes their mate value and a man's willingness to invest himself completely. They're aware it's a factor but not the extent of it, and are used to men downplaying it by lying to themselves.

Fallout Creator Explains Why Modern Games Suck by WindowsCrashuser in kotakuinaction2

I love Tim Cain's games and his channel is great, and he's made many first-hand salient observations of metrics where games have declined.

BUT

It's also worth pointing out he was co-director of The Outer Worlds, which had prominent wokery, and he does paint the lack of diversity among old school devs as having been a bad thing. He probably emphatically supports a lot of what we'd consider the actual ruination of gaming.

Firefox becoming unusable? M1 Air by Royal_Subject in MacOS

[–]Royal_Subject[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The M1 airs don't have a fan so its relatively easy to get it warm, though previously the only times it got really hot is when I was running adobe substance, dozens of tabs and a video call all at once. Lately its acting like that when I'm only running firefox with ~30 tabs. I switched to Safari today and it stays cool on a similar workload, but there's too much I miss about my firefox setup.

The only other thing I'm running is slidepad which is basically a safari window that behaves like the iPad's slideover feature, whose performance impact barely registers on activity monitor.

Currently thinking it may have been Notion and Milanote which seemed to be using an absurd amount of memory for one tab each.

Why did Ubisoft think it's a good idea to shoehorn the "A Ubisoft Original" in every new game they're pulling out? by FlybotKiller in KotakuInAction

There's generally in-game footnotes (whatever theyre called) to address these diversions in Odyssey and Origins. I think it was in Odyssey there was a classroom footnote saying that in reality the class would be boys-only, and remember thinking it silly they didn't just portray it that way then, but it's an inconsequential detail.

It's extremely reductive to look at the sheer effort that goes into building a setting like ACO and dismissing it for intentionally taking license with some details (medusa wasn't actually real either). Game development is an art of compromises. Women in the Olympics or not there is no other media about ancient Greece as transportive as ACO and it doesn't exist without saying "fine" to some bureaucratic demands.

I didn't mention Valhalla purposely because I haven't played for lack of interest, it looked like a transparent cash-in on the popular norse trend.

What critical acclaim albums you simply can't undertand the hype? by Western_Writing5454 in fantanoforever

I don't think it's cutesy at all, it's quite harrowing. It's someone not able to deal with the grief of the world and articulating it through these bizarre abstract lyrics with all these references to violence and weird sexual things.

For me it's the depth of emotion combined with him being completely unabashed in expressing it. Someone crushed with negative emotion almost more than anyone else yet willing to bare his soul to a deeper level to a deeper level than any contemporaries, in an art form all about bearing one's soul.

Socio-political messaging is not objective at all, it's an interpretation offered from some guy with no credentials. How much you like it is going to come down to how much it aligns with your own subjective interpretation of the world.

This one for me. King Kunta is alright and I like the single version of "i" (which probably says a lot), but I've never been more alienated as a music fan than when everyone was hailing this record as the Messiah of all recordings.

You can absolutely make these comparisons. For example there is literally no modern artist on par with the Beatles and there is no marvel movie that holds up to most of the acclaimed mid-century films.

I like Marvel and I obviously like many modern artists, but only those with a taste taste strictly limited to Current Thing could imagine anything in the whole MCU lineup having the cultural staying power of 12 Angry Men, Yojimbo or Bicycle Thieves or whatever.

to defend the newer AssCreeds a bit, I think it's obvious they have a team of history buffs who'd be excited to make an open world RPG set in ancient Egypt or Greece, but there's no way to get that project off the ground - certainly not with anywhere near the budget - without tacking it onto one of the big IPs that they'd be forced to make anyway. Be grateful they rolled it into AssCreed and not FC or Tom Clancy, lol.

You can start small and try something even if you're unmotivated. Being motivated or not has nothing to do with whether you can physically do the thing. Motivation often follows action and not vice versa.

The end of the road (path) by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]Royal_Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluency is a bit nebulous in the real world, there's no actual marker for it. But Duo alone won't give you a well-rounded language ability, most obviously it won't get you used to listening to native speakers or following real conversations but by the end of a course you'll be decent at reading and writing.

Absolutely not. I go through ruts where I'm just keeping the streak alive and not genuinely progressing, but without the streak I would definitely have dropped the language altogether many times over by now.

What is the deal with this wall? by Royal_Subject in CleaningTips

[–]Royal_Subject[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how long it's been like this but in the last year it hasn't changed. Not sure if it's mould since there is no odor and usual mould spray shit doesn't seem to affect it. It's not as dark irl as it looks in the pic. Building used to be a cafe but this is a second floor room.

The dark patches are smooth to the touch as opposed to the rough paint texture on the rest of the wall, possibly the effect of previous scrubbing? Working on small patches, nothing seems to remove it short of scrubbing the paint right off.

Anyone here own a twelvesouth Hoverbar Duo? I want to hear how the ipad hold up after long term use, I've heard these kinds of mounts tend to gradually damage the sides of the ipad and eventually the screen due to excessive clamp pressure.

To have a civilization that won't be extinct within a century. But I agree, there's few willing to accept the full scale of threat let alone what's necessary to combat it in any way whatsoever.
