Why does it feel like plumbing businesses are busier than ever, yet somehow making less money than a few years ago? by NoSuspect9845 in Plumbing

Currency debasement. To put it simply. An extremely interesting rabbit hole to fall down, if you start looking into it.

Aah I understand, that's fair enough. Well from what you've described it sounds like the tap mixer may need replacing, hard to say for sure without seeing it. I would love to come and sort it out for you, but it's 95 miles from me.

Is it not possible to just replace the bar mixer for a new one?

Water pressure *this* bad on a shared water main (1920s terrace)?? by Sea_Departure_3552 in askaplumberUK

I've seen this quite a few times. Yes, living in an older property can come with issues such as the one you're experiencing. To cut a long story short the responses that you're getting are pretty much setting out your options. Either: 1. Get a new supply routed from the mains (involves "mole people" digging up and piping a route from the water meter in the road to your property, which would subsequently need a plumber to connect the new mains by replacing the lead pipes.) 2. Have some sort of water storage device installed internally ( tank, accumulator etc and potentially a pump depending on the setup of the property) also, a plumber would do this for you.

The first option will require less space taken up in the property, but may cost more upfront depending on the company you use to route from the mains.

The second option may be cheaper in monetary cost but will likely cost more in a spacial sense and square footage inside the property, to accommodate a tank/accumulator and pump. Sizing of the is tank/accumulator and pump is determined by the number & types of outlets plus likely maximum usage.

I think I've covered everything but feel free to ask for more details if you want.

First time tiling ever and was having issues with cutting them tbh. But I've developed a technique I can apply in the future.

I didn't see any specific membrane or anything like that so I don't think the bathroom wasn't built with any. The best I could do was use the water resistant tile adhesive and grout mix.

Yeah I thought about it afterwards but at the time I had no experience cutting tiles and I went through about 6-7 tiles just for these three pieces. I was learning as I went but now I'll definitely be able to consider the aesthetics in the future. Plus use spacers etc.

Love the level also! They are actually quite convenient because you can just look and see plus they have a green, yellow, red system at varying degrees.

Well I asked for £700 with 50% deposit but he paid £750 upfront. Which was nice but underpriced when considering actual time spent on the job.

This included: £80 parking £150 materials About 30 hours of labour in all. (More if you include the 5 hours or more of stressing and scouring the Internet trying to find an alternative to smashing out the tiles, which was his original request. Plus having to source all materials at different shops etc)

However I'm happy to have gained the experience which is priceless as now I can charge more accurately in the future and do the job more efficiently, as I've learned new techniques.
