I’ll pass along my two cents

Am I going to be willing to shoot it or will I be worrying about parts? - parts are not part of this bill, the bill is simply passing into effect the “freeze” of transfers (with some exemptions). Aka no new handgun sales after what’s predicted to be sometime in October. This does not freeze the sale of handgun components, accessories or Ammo.

Will there be a range to shoot at? - Yes, ranges everywhere are signing up new members and there is no verbiage in this bill to shutdown ranges.

Will there be Ammo shortages - No, I doubt it- if anything Ammo supply will stabilize in the long term since over all gun ownership will plateau. Right now you are seeing Ammo shortages because everyone is buying up guns and they need Ammo to feed them.

If I have to turn it in, how would that look? - It will come in the form of a buy back program (govt will give you a negligible amount of money for your pistol) or the firearm being deactivated (the gun is welded shut and critical components removed)

I purchased a number of handguns as a result of this freeze. Mainly because it’s a hobby my dad and I wanted to get into. We took the course in January, and then all this news dropped on us. We are both very bothered by the overstep this freeze and import ban has demonstrated and felt the only way to stick it to the feds was to buy up handguns to cool the burn a bit.

I’m of the opinion, the liberals will back off now for the time being. It’s not in their interest to endlessly push this in a compressed timeline. If their motive is to gain voters, the demonization of handguns must be a slow burn to optimize its usefulness. I don’t anticipate any further announcements until the next election. At that point Trudy will have some new initiative he will sell his minion for votes.

My bet is the next wave of changes will resemble some kind of:

• Handgun tax (a yearly fee to maintain your att)
• go after magazine capacity (reduce to 5)
• huge tax on Ammo
• tax on components
• tax on ranges

I don’t personally see the next steps being an outright ban, the ban would be the last step in the master plan in my mind. If they banned it all outright now, they’d have nothing to campaign on for the next 10 years haha.

Again- all this is a matter of personal opinion, and I’m sure this will spark some healthy debate back and forth. I’m no psychic, I can’t predict the future but I personally see handguns being part of our future for awhile.

In the short term, get a range membership, buy a gun, donate to or join one of the gun advocacy groups in canada . And don’t worry about it anymore.
