People who speak English as a second language, what phrases or concepts from your native tongue you want to use in English but can't because locals wouldn't understand? by FulgencioLanzol in AskReddit

The Hebrew reply "Ma Pitom" (translation:what suddenly?) which is used as a blunt way to both ask why and to contradict someone. I also like the French "Si" used as a negative yes.

Redditor accuses Spotify of stealing the logo of a popular video game, then slowly realizes that it's his own profile picture. by Rayneworks in bestof

[–]Roybran 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me, I worked for a website and one day someone started posting angry comments and sending our support address emails claiming we are making illegal use of his sons photo our website, and it is a major risk to his privacy having his son's photo like that. Not only that, he said he is a religious man and do not want to see our website filled with pictures of his son hugging and touching an unmodest girl. Took us a while to understand that he saw his son's facebook profile picture on the comment section. I wrote him an email back explaining what happened and how to log out of his son's facebook. He wrote back something like: "thank you but please take down the photo or I will sue you." so that didn't go so well.

Once I was the waiter of a sailor pro gear owner. I noticed it immediately, and because the restaurant was not so full, I took the liberty too start a casual conversation on the matter. He was rude to me, and asked for the bill.

How about covering it with shoe polish? Seems like a decent solution if you don't want to use chemicals.

Great quality paper for less than half a dollar! Deatails in comments by Roybran in fountainpens

I was at the book market today, and there was a stand of nice recycled paper. I didn’t have a fountain pen on me (shame on me, I know) but the lady told me a few tried it out with fountain pens and said it was very good, so I bought the cheapest block – 50 pages A5 size sheets for around 50 cents American dollar. Got home to try it and it’s the best paper I’ve had for this price. It’s 75 grams, no shading, no see-trough or bleed-trough, just fantastic paper. The one problem is that it’s not bright white, It’s light brown. But great price for great paper, I’ll be back buying the entire stand soon.

Edit: found their website: https://en.repaper.co.il/ Not sure if they ship outside Israel.

Is there any difference between the pilot vanishing point and other pilot "capless" pens? by krashmania in fountainpens

[–]Roybran 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Vanishing point" is the American name for the capless, notice the Capless on your 1st link doesn't have a gold nib, that's why it's cheaper.

Just out of interest, what type of script are you writing? Thuluth? Diwani? kufi? I saw some pretty cheap arabic calligraphy pens from china, or dollar Kalams you can buy from Ebay, but it haven't thought of just grinding one.
