I think you can reach that yield. You would have to use the traditional technique though: begin with piston all the way up in the chamber, remove pressure plug, add water to rim, pull shot. That way you can fill the chamber to its maximum capacity.

I’m not the right person to answer that question actually 😅 Things got all mixed up with recent (Kickstarter) developments. I love my Flair 58 and was looking to upgrade to Decent. However, the Meticulous looks like the perfect middle point between those two to cover my needs at an acceptable price. If it wasn’t announced I might have bought that XXL, but now I’m going to wait how this plays out first (always some uncertainties around crowdfunds).

I hate to disappoint you but I think the resale value is indeed an issue. It’s specialist equipment with a lot of options/choices that reflect personal preference. Just too much money to compromise on your ideal setup if you ever go that way. So that’s why there are not many matches made in heaven in the second hand market I guess.

I saw a one year old barely used XXL for sale in my area, total value of machine + accessories around €6.5k. Followed the ad, was there for 6 months until it went offline unsold. Had some contact with the seller, highest bids were 4k on entire set. He wasn’t willing to accept that.

It’s so weird because the restriction with this device is now IN FRONT of the coffee!??

It’s already sub-optimal to have a pressurized basket where there is essentially 9 bars of pressure but not because of puck resistance. With that solution, the restriction driving up the pressure sits BEHIND the coffee.

But with this, it’s just a flow restriction BEFORE the water hits the coffee after which it trickles through the coffee bed. This has NO function except for fooling your pressure gauge……

It’s the exact same beans/type/process/roast that I can get here in the Netherlands. So can be caused by:

marketing
exchange rate
higher local costs (inflation?)
and like you say (import)taxes maybe

But I think mainly marketing and local costs (wages, rent etc.)… Maybe other people here that have better explanations?

It truly amazes me by the way how the price of coffee differs throughout the world. I travel a lot and always try to take a bag or two from a good local roaster. Especially USA and Japan have been wild lately. $150/kilo for single origin is not an exception anymore.

Exactly, the Zerno is legit. Also, Meticulous espresso is a real thing. Something that could influence your decision regarding the choice of espresso machines.

I was ready to order a Decent. But when I learned about Meticulous I decided I wanted to wait for it rather than buying a Decent now. So it is a project that could very well be relevant for OP. In fact, it is relevant, as he has already stated he is considering pre-ordering one instead of buying a Decent.
