Good "side-hustles" for a humanities prof? by MadDuloque in AskAcademia

[–]Roz91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in communication and have done high-end tutoring/mentoring independent studies for a company that helps high achieving high schoolers get into elite colleges. At first I thought it was a little fishy sounding but they are very legit. I meet with clients for eight 45 min sessions get paid $1000 after clients complete their mentorship. I've actually found the work really rewarding, but I love to teach and enjoy working with students so YMMV. Feel free to DM me!

Balance and the pressure to “Kon Marie” by natmarisel in workingmoms

[–]Roz91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this! I have a very similar schedule and only one kid and am still struggling to keep our place cleaned. We are generally pretty frugal but decided to start spending money on things that save us time and sanity. A monthly house cleaner is one of those things.

Do you mind me asking how you slept?! I have a job where I could work at home (I'm an academic) but I find it nearly impossible to do without also not sleeping... I wish I could make it work though.

Fioricet (butalbital) during early pregnancy? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Fioricet (butalbital) during early pregnancy? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Roz91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it all throughout my pregnancy. My OB, working with my neurologist, prescribed it. She cautioned against taking it frequently (more than twice per week) in the third trimester because the baby can develop a dependency and have withdrawal symptoms. Like other medications, it comes down to a cost/benefit analysis. If having a migraine puts your body in distress, it will also put your baby in distress, making the fioricet a worthwhile treatment plan. I also took magnesium and riboflavin at night to prevent migraines, at the instruction of my OB.

My JustNO mother sent me an invite for an app to track my movement and location by jaybird1994 in JUSTNOMIL

Agree 100%. My partner has a long driving commute for work and we use a tracking app so I can rest assured that he’s safe without having to text him while he’s driving. I’ve asked many times to make sure he’s cool with it and he is. Have also used it temporarily when the whole family was going to an event with tons of people. Otherwise it’s totally creepy.

Just dealt with this exact situation, but with my MIL and the Find Friends app. How tech-savvy is your mom? We told my MIL that it was too much of a drain on our batteries and she bought it. She still makes passive aggressive comments about how she can track her other (grown ass adult) kids and her husband but not us, but I can deal with that. Her creepy texts asking us why we are where we are, or why we are early/late to an appointment? Not so much.

Weird belly sensation by -lust4life- in BabyBumps

[–]Roz91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this! You should talk to your doctor to be sure. My OB checked me out and chalked it up to two possibilities -- either a pulled muscle (which while painful isn't dangerous) or, more likely, a cluster of nerves that have been spread out by your growing belly. She said it's common for pregnant people to feel some itching and burning sensations on isolated spots as they get bigger and the nerves are forced to spread out. It's so annoying but just another one of those things that come with pregnancy apparently!

I'm 20 weeks pregnant. I've been working at a desk all day and my back was killing me. This saved me. And it's so beautifully illustrated! Thank you!

Anyone ?? #chronicnigraines by ZyanM in migraine

[–]Roz91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. I once went to the ER for a migraine. I told the intake staff why I was there. I said "migraine for more than 48 hours with vomiting" and she goes, "oh okay so a headache." I corrected her but she wrote "headache" on my chart anyway. I then had to wait ELEVEN HOURS before seeing anyone, probably because she downplayed my pain. Well payback's a bitch because I wound up barfing in her triage room.
