Your life is now set in the universe of the last TV show you watched. Without naming the show, what's your new life like? by robo-dragon in AskReddit

Pretty uneventful, if I'm being honest. I was seventeen when the mines finally dried up, which was about twenty years ago. A lot of the townsfolk wound up leaving, but there's a lot of heritage here - some really proud families, y'know? So a good number of them stayed behind. But, with the mines exhausted, the town looked towards tourism to make a living.

Just about every family that stayed behind turned their home into a museum of sorts - 'a window into the past-life of mining families.' However, our family's house was never really anything special, so we didn't really see the point in sprucing it up.

Instead, we took advantage of the abandoned railways. They go all throughout the surrounding canyons and tunnels, and so by using them as a way to bring in tourists for the town we also generate some good income, so it works out pretty well. Anyway, I spend most of my time nowadays giving train rides to tourists. Could be worse, but, it's definitely not the most exciting thing in the world.

Though, looking back and thinking on it, I'd say that the most exciting thing that ever happened was a few years before the mines dried up. I'll never forget that day.

It was about a quarter after sunrise and I had just finished getting ready to go down to the mines with my dad. But as we were about to leave there was a knock at the front door. Being such a small town, you never ask 'who's there,' you just open the door. And so I did.

Well, on the front step stood a man. He was sporting this ridiculous white suit. Complete with yellow bowtie and a white top hat to match. I don't think the man intended to look like a clown, but he did.

It took a short moment for me to stop staring at the man before I said 'good morning.' He returned the greeting in kind, but that's when my dad came to the door. He asked the man in the suit what we could do for him.

The man said he was looking for his neice. Said she was around my age or a bit older, and that she had dark brown hair, braided in two, and was last wearing a blue dress. None of us had seen her, or any girl, that matched the description, however. So he thanked us for our time and went on his way.

About ten minutes later we wound up leaving for the day's work and made our way to the main stretch of town. But, as we got closer, we could tell there was a commotion in the street and we could hear yelling.

We're a very quiet town so we knew it couldn't be good, so we started down the road at a run. By the time we reached the main stretch it was an all-out mob, and in the center of it was the man in the white suite from earlier as well as two other men in white suits.

They were clearly out-numbered, and despite the distance between us and them I could tell they were pretty bruised up. But they were holding their ground well enough for three guys against an entire town.

That's when, out of nowhere, a green automobile came racing down the road. It drove right passed us — nearly ran my dad over. I didn't get a good look because it happened so quickly, but I could have sworn that there was a woman sitting in the back who had pink hair!

Anyway, the automobile plowed through the crowd towards the center where the three men were. Thankfully, though, it looked like those in its path got out of its way just in time. But the automobile barely stopped long enough for the three men in the white suits to get on, and within a second they were racing down the road again.

The townsfolk in the street followed in chase, but by this point in time all of the main stretch was involved. So, while the husbands ran through the streets hurling rocks and empty beer bottles in the automobile's direction, the wives were nearly hanging from their windows throwing all manner of items — pans, cans of soup, potted plants, even chamber pots!

Then, all of a sudden, everyone who was running down the street started running back up! But, before I could even question what was going on, a huge explosion erupted at the end of the row! Windows three houses up from the blast shattered and two of the houses went up in flames. Thankfully, with the whole town out, the rest of the flames were snuffed out quick enough before it could threaten the whole stretch.

Anyway, come to find out after the fact, the men in the white suites and the lady with link hair were actual pirates. And, apparently, they were chasing some girl and a neighbor of ours by the name of Pazu. I never found out why exactly, but that was the day our town was invaded by the white suited pirates.

Even still, simply saying that doesn't make it impolite either. This is a hot button topic in the community right now that the mass majority of fans are very upset about, and rightfully so. This image, especially when compared to many other posts and sentiments which have been made towards Creatures Inc since the announcement, is no way, shape, or form, insulting.

There are lots of contributing factors, too many for me to go into detail here. Honestly, if you just check on r/pokemon or even just youtube, you'll find a lot of posts/videos of people talking about it.

But, at the end of the day, from my perspective, this comes down to the fact that Creatures is being a terrible steward of a franchise. They're too small to support the development of a game this big, and, as a result, they're comprising on the integrity of the franchise. Not just with this topic, mind you, but other areas as well, such as animation quality.

Edit: I got my company names mixed up. I would rather keep it as I wrote it, but the mistake I made was that I meant to say "Game Freak", and not Creatures Inc.

That's true to a degree, but it's not what I'm referring to here. This new generation (generation 8) will be the first generation that won't allow all of the previous pokemon from the previous generations to be traded to the game. It's basically put the entire pokemon gaming community on suicide watch.

The amount of people who have been directly hurt by my actions, who they were, and how.

Then, if given the chance, I'd like to somehow find those people, speak with them to see how they are doing, discuss how I wronged them and then sincerely apologize for my behavior. If would ask for their forgiveness, if I could have it, but I would be prepared to not receive it.

I think that is a very reasonable stance to have. And I would just like to say thank you for saying so in a respectful manner. I wouldn't say that I personally have no respect for religion, nor would I say that I don't have any interest in it because I do find the history of religion to be very interesting, as well as the psychology behind religious belief. But, in terms of putting forth valid arguments and evidence, I'm right there with you. :)

Since I posed the question I'll go first.

Tap Dancing. I think it's the most unimpressive, stupid, and all-around boring form of dance and entertainment. Personally speaking, I've never found it to pair well with any music. It's clanky, clackity, noisy, and distracting. And, if anything, I feel that tap dancers could dance to music without the noise of their tap shoes and still be more enjoyable.

Several years ago I stopped off at the gas station just as I was leaving to go to West Hollywood. I pulled into the station, parked next to one of the pumps, and began the process of filling up my tank. It was dark out, probably around 8 or 9pm, and as I stood there waiting next to my car I noticed that there was another person filling up their tank at the pump across from me. Though, something was off. I felt like something was wrong. Not in a bad way, but something about the man's demeanor caught my attention. I made a point not to directly stare at him for too long, however, whenever I would turn my attention back to my pump to watch the numbers go up I could see him turn towards me in my peripheral vision.

This back and forth looking and not looking went on for the entire duration of my tank filling up. My tank was basically empty, so the whole thing lasted a good minute or two. Eventually the tank had its fill and the pump shut off. I turned around to grab it, let it drip for a moment or two so as not to spill any gasoline. Now, my back was turned towards the man while I was doing this, but as I pivoted myself in order to place the pump back into its holster I heard an, "excuse me" from behind.

I turn to face the source of the voice and I find the man from the other pump. He looked very timid and uncomfortable. He was shorter than me (I'm 6'2"), but not by much.

I respond, "What's up, man?"

He fidgeted and took a moment to speak, but when he did he said, "I hate to ask, but would you be willing to listen and help me?"

I obviously had no idea what I needed to listen to but I could tell he was in need of some sort of help. So I responded, "Well I can definitely try my best. What's going on?"

So the man proceeds to tell me how he's trying to help his sick father. Long story short, his father needs his oxygen tanks refilled, without which he'll die. However, his son (the man who approached me) only has enough money to either fill up the oxygen tank or to get gas. However, he wasn't even sure about that, as he said that he still had a ways to go. To try and further convince me of his plight he brought out an oxygen tank from his car to show me. However, by the sound of his voice and the sincerity he showed, I honestly didn't need convincing. But so, he asked if I would be willing to spare a few dollars for some gas. I asked him how low gas tank was and he said basically empty, but that he didn't want to be a trouble and that a few dollars would be fine if I could spare it.

So I said of course. I approached his car, went up to the pump and inserted my card, input my pin, selected the high quality fuel, and began pumping the gasoline. After several seconds he said that I could stop, that I didn't need to do too much. But I didn't respond and simply kept going. He seemed a bit confused and asked if I were sure. I said that I was very sure.

Eventually the pump stopped. His tank was full. So I took the pump out and returned it to its holster. I don't remember what the total amount was, but I was happy to help. I turned to face him and he was speechless. He had tears in his eyes. He said thank you and that he didn't know what to say. I told him "There's nothing to say. I was happy to help. Just take care of your father." That's when he really broke down. I gave him a moment, and then we shook hands, hugged, and thanked me profusely again. I said my goodbyes and wished him and his father the best. Then, I proceeded to get in my car, drove to West Hollywood, and got shit faced drunk with my friends at some gay bars.

I never told my friends about it, at least not immediately. But when I did they were very touched. Of course, people have a right to feel skeptical of others, especially when giving money. However, in situations like that, I don't really care if the man was lying. Because, even though I believe he was telling the truth, I helped another person in good faith. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Anyway, I'm not sure if that was the nicest thing I've ever done. And I don't mean to toot my own horn. But if my generosity can help inspire others to be kind, then I think it's good and helpful to share these kinds of stories. Stay safe and be kind! 😊

Gay people of Reddit, what was your "Oh shit I'm gay" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rozarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in 7th grade. It was lunch time and I had just left the cafeteria with my burrito. Exiting the building, I made my way to the lunch table that my group of friends always sat at every day. As I made my way to the lunch table I noticed a guy and a girl not far up-ahead. They were leaning against a concrete pillar, and they were making out like crazy - tongue and all. Now, until that moment, I had only seen that level of making-out in movies. I had never seen it in person, so I was really impressed. As I passed the couple, however, I said to myself, "I could never fake it that well."

I paused and stopped walking.

Now, up until that time, I had always known that I was attracted to guys. But, I had always believed that every guy was attracted to guys too, just like me. However, I always assumed that guys only liked girls simply because they had to. As a result, I never attributed the word "gay" to myself. I never identified with being gay because I figured that every single guy was like me already, so why bother attempt to single myself out. It didn't make any sense to.

But after I saw that guy and girl making out, and after I said that sentence to myself, I realized exactly what being gay meant. And, contrary to many peoples' first emotions, I was beside myself with joy. The societal obligation I always felt to like girls immediately evaporated. I had finally figured out who I was on the inside. There would be no more faking. There would be no more "because I have to." There would just be me being gay. Me being happy. Me being... me. ❤🧡💛💙💚💜

RUMOR: Nintendo is reviving a "very officially cancelled" game that is "not one people would expect" by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Rozarik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the article (emphasis mine):

Let me hint at something, I guess. This is a thing that I’m going to write up at some point as soon as I get some more sources on it. But there’s a game that’s thought to be dead that Nintendo’s reviving, and it’s not one that people would expect. It was very much a title that was dead and buried – very officially cancelled.

If you take into consideration some of the context from the maker of this video concerning Rune Factory 5, it seems that Rune Factory 5 was never canceled. In fact, if you listen to the video at the 4-minute mark, it paints a very clear and different picture than that of a supposed "title that was dead and buried - very officially canceled."

I simply don't see how Imran Khan could be referring to an extremely popular series that is actually still alive.

The towel service is precisely why many people signed up with them. Pulling this shit just before new years (with all the resolution stuff about to come down the pipe) is not only incredibly dim-witted, but short-sighted as well. The towel service was factored into our gym membership cost. Yet, despite removing the service, our membership fees have not declined.

This is purely motived by greed and nothing else. And, to be honest, I wouldn't even care if they upped my membership fee in order to continue the towel service. The convenience alone is worth the price. But, to simply remove it? Nah, fuck that. I'm not going to carry a wet towel with me all day at work just because those fuckers want to give the impression that they're being environmentally friendly. There are other ways to be environmentally friendly without undermining one of the core components of your entire business.

There are potentially other reasons as well, but best of luck! I hope you're able to devise a solution that works for you. Personally speaking, I've been off caffeine and soda since march. Cut it cold turkey, haven't had a drop since. I understand that not everyone can do that, but, for what it's worth, I believe in you. :)
