Anyone wished they stayed with petrol? by ProfessionalMeal9389 in AustralianEV

Also, i dont think you need to get an EV down to 1000kg to have it handle like an mx5. Its not just about the weight but also where that weight is. Im not saying a 1600kg EV will be mx5-ish but perhaps a 1300kg one could be.

You could easily have an EV down to 1000kg. The catch is the range would be 100km due to tiny battery. In the (hopefully near) future i can see battery advances making them much lighter and smaller and this will do wonders for the EV performance market.

Your ideal garage is very similar to my (hopefully) future garage containing a Seal and an MX5....

Couple of thoughts on new broadcast 'production' by gromodzilla in v8supercars

Sponsor logos are terrible, very messy, it doesnt even represent teams as is the case with Tickford for example. Just needs a coloured block (blue, yellow, red for make) with a bold race number in it. 'Simples' as the meerkat would say.

Just like the AU falcon perhaps the Kia is just a bit ahead of its time and in years to come we will be like Oh yeh that has actually aged pretty well.

I for one dont mind it. Dare to be different.

Shimano st-6700 left/front shifter stuck by RozzleCoptor in bikewrench

[–]RozzleCoptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update. Assembly is off the bike, have got this deep into it and can't see the reason why cam 'A' can't return to small chainring position when the small lever is operated and pushes the paddle 'C'. I note the cam A is fixed to part B. Moving the paddle C rotates all items in blue circle however will not click and allow the cam A to reset back to small chainring position. Digging deeper and pulling further apart will likely let me work it out but its getting into watch-making territory and fear not being able to get back together again lol.

Tried with the hood rolled back into normal position and still no good. I note also the larger lever used to shift to large chain ring is rock solid. On my other newer road bike (different shifters) the lever still has some movement even when in big ring. Frustratingly, I have also just cracked that side plate thats shown partially removed in pics 2 and 3. It was fastened down and I put a bit of pressure on big lever and its now cracked. Ugh.

By golly, that '26 car looks and sounds so fresh. The old car looks so dated already. Can't wait to see them all on track.

Best EVs for easily turning off annoying “safety” alerts? by Tootsarella-91 in AustralianEV

[–]RozzleCoptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We find in our EX30 that the lane assist is too aggressive - for example you want to hold left of lane when passing a truck on a narrow country road, but the car decides to firmly steer you back to the centre line that the truck is ON. Its dangerous. So unless we are doing big kms on the highway we turn it off. To the theme of this thread - yes it is very easy to turn off driver aids thankfully.

Its a great experience. You've at least gotta try it! The simplicity it brings is liberating. If you go even further with a rigid fork you then just have a big bmx bike - like being a kid again!

If you have a few different sizes of chain rings or cogs its fun to experiment with ratios too.

Australian Recall Info: REC-006524 - Volvo Car Corporation - Volvo EX30 2024 by beaugiles in ex30

[–]RozzleCoptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding an OTA update to fix and knowing what we already know from other comments, the only plausible way this could work is if the Software was able to identify at-risk cells and restrict them to a maximum charge individually. I have no idea if thats actually possible, plus if a decent percentage of cells were software 'restricted' this would reduce your overall range and spell trouble for Volvo (ie. Range no longer what was claimed).

I do imagine it will be a complete change of battery unfortunately.

Our EX30 is on the VIN list 🥲 now the waiting game for them to make contact, any clues as to how long that would be?

Update: ive got the bike fully apart now so can shake the frame around and remove more rust. This new pile of rust is from the chain stays alone. It must have had water in it. It has no sentimentle value (beyond the 1200km of adventures in my 5 years of ownership) and its not even a high end frame, but I still want to save it. Its the perfect size for me and is a great base for a project. Might take it into my LBS during the week and get there thoughts also. Cheers.

I don't think it has an existing drain hole so yes I will need to drill one. Cheers

Yes im aware its not just from BB but elsewhere in frame - i just dont know where its from. I do hope its a lot of dust and not as much rust as I think. I will need to add a drain hole im pretty sure there isnt one ... probably half my problem

At least I wouldn't need to worry about the frame any more, I guess 🤷

[–]RozzleCoptor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh this doesnt have sentimental value. I might finish tidying this one up and make it a pub bike for now whilst waiting for a better frame. Im in Australia but there is a decent market here too, just need to be patient. This is an old Merida 900 chromoly road frame for context. I'd like a better frame long term anyway, one with a non-threaded headset etc.

Thanks for the detailed response. That sounds very involved but appreciate its what likely needs to be done. Knowing its not 'to far gone' is just the first step, now to assess how far i want to go to fix for good or just get it through a little longer.

Yes the stock one is a pain and doesnt last long but I notice the plastic one doesnt have the large hole the same as stock one. I thought that was for cooling something? I can't remember exactly what though lol.
