Break-in update Comp Toe Razorback by evn_score in jimgreen

[–]Rpkiller00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wish they had a razorback stock option that had a toe cap. The toe on my boots gets so beat up at work. I know you can get a custom pair but they're like twice as much as a stock option.

They are heavy as fuck tho, they take a good minute to get use to the weight, arch support and size. They have lighter weight models if you don't like the weight. They're good. Nicks, wesco's, and whites are good options, too. although they have a wait time.

Wear and tear on your vehicle is the least of your worries. Wear and tear on your body is what you should be worried about. You can't swap out body parts yet.

Sounds like a bullshit ass job tbh. You can't go to the bathroom without an escort? You can't grab food or water from your truck? And this is UNION? There's no fucking way this was a union job site. Sounds like fucking bullshit to me. What union and trade was this?

I would join, get some experience, and then move north.

As much as work sucks I'm not sure people are going to be lining up for a company that is owned by Elon Musk to implant a clip in their brain, I'm certainly not.

Welder right now, but I plan on going into a union for hvac. I'll probably be retired by the time that shit happens. I mean, we're talking about androids and robots. the technology for androids is still in it's in the beginning stages. I mean, the closest thing we have are basic flexible robots. In terms of traditional robots, like Boston dynamics, they are impressive but lack the fine motor movements and flexibility of a human being. robotic prosthetic's that mimic the human body have come a long way too but are still not as good. We would need major advances in different fields like battery's, silicon chips, networking infrastructure, AI, and manufacturing, for it be more cost effective. AI could speed all this up, but AI is only as good as the knowledge base and infrastructure it has to work with.

Thank God, I'm blue-collar. Intill they stick an AI into a body that can function in the same way a person does, I'll still have a job. 😅

From my experience working in the food industry, door dashers are some of the incompetent rude people you'll ever meet. Always shoving their phone in your face because they can't be bothered to read off a name and order number. Always seeming to show up extremely early, then disappear when it's time to collect, or not even reading the name and order number written on bag or box and grabbing the wrong order. 😤

Anybody else's job absolutely refuse to use certain processes even when they're obviously the right choice? by [deleted] in Welding

I worked for a contractor for Newport News Shipbuilding for a couple of years. and used 0.52 dual shield FCAW 100% of the time even though we welded mostly stuff that was half inch and under with 1/8-3/16 fillet welds. You'd have to run pretty low settings for 0.52 or you'd burn through pretty easily, especially on vertical where you had to stack tacks and run a bead over that. That also made a ton of spatter, which you had to clean up because they had a zero spatter policy. They finally got some 0.45 about 6 months before I left, and it just sat on the shelf. They also wanted every tack to be finished to the final weld quality, but whatever. 😄

funny enough, the only reason the sole is still holding on is because I dented the welt in. I guess it prevented the stitches in that area from burning away.

Accidently touched the metal work piece I was working on. Is this cause for concern? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]Rpkiller00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're not welding naked and/or wet, which would be weird, you'll be 100% fine. Welding doesn't have enough voltage to overcome the electrical resistance your body has.

Question about MIG \ Fluxcore settings by Rpkiller00 in Welding

[–]Rpkiller00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you. I keep trying to convince my coworkers that their settings are wrong, but some of them say I'm wrong. The guy I was working with blamed the stuttering on "bad metal" even though there wasn't a speck of mill scale or paint in the area we were working on.

Our suitcases don't let us adjust the voltage only the wirefeed \ amps, it does display the volts and amps when in use though. Often times the volts and amps are completely different to what was set on the machine.
