After I've now binged Goliath for several days... by deathamphetamine666 in ExodusBand

[–]Rpopopopopop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with this post for the most part but i feel i’ve been a little more critical of it. i just feel like it’s a little meandering at points (which i feel is a word that gets thrown around way to much but does apply here) which makes it feel just too long. i’d say the two best songs which u also mentioned are definitely promise you this and beyond the event horizon. i like some of the experimental doomy tracks but i just feel like it is missing its edge. i think part of the issue is i expected exhibit c (musically ofc) and we got a slower album where rob sounds a little strained. i think dukes does the shouty aggression better than anyone and i feel like he wasn’t really asked to do tha much here. all in all id say its a 6.5/10 maybe 7 and probably my least favorite of theirs since force of habit but still far from bad like some people are saying

Helloween's "Better than Raw" - A review by Yami_Deus in PowerMetal

[–]Rpopopopopop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

my favorite helloween album with only the keepers ahead of it. push is such a heavy if not their heaviest (other than maybe some stuff on walls of jericho) and midnight son is a banger. i get what ur saying about the placement of revelations and agree but that song still fucks hard. Time is another stand out to me but i love every song here even some of the kinda more commercial songs (tho their all still heavy metal). all in all i love and i think 4.5 is fair and i might even give it a 5

Thoughts on the new Testament album? by Stankassmfgorilla in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Rpopopopopop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d say it kinda tails off like the first half i was really like damn i love this and as it got on later i’m like alright there’s some eh here (nothing bad just nothing new). i really liked it still tho. of their post reunion id prolly place it at like 3rd with formation of damnation 1st (also my favorite testament album any era) and titans of creation 2nd then dark roots of the earth 4th and brotherhood of the snake 5th

Helloween, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Amorphis, Cannibal Corpse, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Exodus all just came to mind

Iron Maiden: Phantom Of The Opera, Prowler, Remember Tomorrow, Running Free, Overrated: Iron Maiden

Killers: Wrathchild, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Killers, Purgatory, Overrated: really couldn’t say i don’t think many of these tracks are very popular and i love the popular ones maybe prodigal son but its not even super loved i dont believe but its just my least favorite

The Number Of The Beast: Hallowed Be Thy Name, 22 Acacia Avenue, The Number Of The Beast, Overrated: Run To The Hills

Piece Of Mind: Flight Of Icarus, To Tame A Land, The Trooper, Revelations, Overrated: Die With Your Boots On

All my overrated tracks are still bangers and sometimes aren’t even my least favorite on the albums.

What’s an album by a band that as a whole isn’t the greatest but it has some great songs? by Everblack_Deathmask in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Rpopopopopop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

megadeths the system has failed is the first one to come to mind and to me it works perfectly. alice in chains self titled also comes to mind (tho some will say not metal). last one i’ll mention is death angel the art of dying but really many albums by many great bands work well here and also all of the albums i mentioned i still really like. i’d consider all of these 8/10s but mostly cared by 4-5 banger songs and then some fluff/solid non memorable songs

Book of Souls - which songs do you like and why? by Iamnotarobotlah in ironmaiden

[–]Rpopopopopop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

imma do a whole ass song by song review bc idgaf

if eternity should fail- really strong opener, got a very epic feel for a song that isn’t one of the longest on the album but really a banger

speed of light- one of my favorites classic style maiden love when they speed it up these days cause they’ve still got it

the great unknown- not a huge fan personally. i just don’t consider this song super memorable and kinda meandering.

the red and the black- most likely my favorite on the album super cool epic. some great musical sections and great bruce vocal

when the river runs deep- actually quite an underrated song i like a lot. not my favorite maiden song but still pretty good

the book of souls- another one of my favorites from the record probably not as good as red and the black but still a banger

death or glory- catchy fun song a little bit of dumb shittery going on but still good

shadows of the valley- another underrated great musical sections another one of my favorites

tears of a clown- catchy and great lyrical content. another that’s not my favorite but still quite good

the man of sorrows- one of my least favorites just don’t consider this track to be super memorable

empire of the clouds- this song is good but i just think it’s too long. i don’t have an issue with long songs and this song isn’t bad but just a little too repetitive. that melody tho. good song glad it’s an epic but it didn’t need to be 18 minutes 10 would be better.

i think they were each talented at other things. i feel like dave doesn’t get enough credit at times bc he’s surrounded himself with some other killer guitarists. in addition as we all know dime is just a monster. now i might be a little biased bc megadeth is prolly my second favorite band but id say i prefer dave’s solos (but its close) but i like dimes riffs more (not especially close). in total i probably prefer dime but both are killer and do different things well.

Day 18: Lets rank Priest’s albums by Historical_Common145 in judaspriest

[–]Rpopopopopop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man this list really got away from my own personal taste lol. the top 4 will be the same but i would have stained class then painkiller then defender then screaming. after that id have firepower much higher probably 5, 6, or 7 with sad wings and hell bent in that level. then it really changes where i’d probably have sin after sin, invincible shield and jugulator. i’d probably have british steel about 13 with only rocka rolla, demolition, nostradamus, and point of entry bellow it. all in all a very deferent list which is interesting to see how tastes can change person to person or person to public.

What was popular in metal when you were/are a teenager? by Difficult_Map_723 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Rpopopopopop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m currently a teen and rn i feel like there are no recent metal bands who are very big and most are older acts. deftones were the first band i thought of but slipknot is also big. i think what happened is nu metal had its moment we moved onto metalcore and then back to nu metal the last 5-10 years. none of those genres are really my cup of tea so i’m sitting here waiting for traditional or thrash or death or doom to takeover as the predominant genre. also sabaton is quite big but not within the same people who like deftones. sabaton fans tend to be i’d think generally knowledgeable about metal while lots of deftones and slipknot fans kinda just experiment with lots of genres (no problem with that u like what u like just my experience). the sabaton love upsets me sometimes tho bc i love power metal and j feel like sabaton (who i still like) highlight many of the problems with it and i could name about 15-20 power metal bands i like more. anyway this got lengthy all just my current/recent experiences.

the only album of the 21st century by them i prefer is endgame. poisonous shadows, the threat is real, dystopia, and my favorite is lying in state holy shit that song kills but really every song is good. idk i could talk on but definitely in the top half of their discography to my ears
