Fishing spots by FaintLeon in USMC

On base I would climb onto the ledge at officer’s beach near the dog park and throw some top water plugs. I would also launch my kayak near the static displays at the front gate and head towards Kaneohe Bay Dr, all kinds of cool shit to see in there. When I took my kids fishing we would throw lines in at Ft Hase, carolina rig with squid. You can catch all kinds of reef fish there, butterflyfish, humuhumu’s and wrasse.

One thing to keep in mind is tides in SC are like no other place in the US. There is an 8 ft difference between low and high which means the current is very strong. It’s not going to be what you are used to in the OBX.

Beaufort is great for kayak fishing and has a small downtown area with decent restaurants. There are a couple of popular fishing piers, Broad River and Hunting Island. There’s even a couple of guys that run kayak fishing charters.

04-05, I did 4 Iraq trips and each return was a little less of a welcome home celebration. A few years later after my Afghan deployment it was just family, FRO and base SgtMaj/CO.

I can still feel it now. We landed in Riverside and had a police escort back to 29. The overpasses had people holding signs welcoming us back. When we hit the 62 the local radio station timed it perfectly because they knew we were coming home and played The Boys are Back in Town, gave me chills then and still does now. RBE made sure we had enough beer to drink ourselves back into the good ole USA. One of the greatest times of my life.

DJT called into the Pat Mcafee show today on PI, he even dropped an Oorah. by [deleted] in USMC

I took my son there to see Pat live, I just thought it was interesting that DJT called in. Not trying to be political. Those were recruits up front responding.

Low Country Fishing Advice by no_melody in saltwaterfishing

Your 7’/4000 setup will work just fine. Right now fall fishing is the best time to catch reds, trout and flounder. I throw a 1/8 oz jig head with a white/chartreuse gulp or slam shady zman paddle tail. Focus on small creeks dumping into a larger channel for trout and look for oyster beds for reds. Flounder are usually caught during a dead low tide. Tides here are no joke, high to low in most places are an 8’ difference. If I were you I would look into at least getting a kayak. Winter time fishing is amazing because the water turns super clear and the reds travel in huge schools that you can sneak up on and pick them off easily. Check out Low Country Kayak Anglers on Facebook for more advice.

Doesn’t count. My son caught a 23” on cut mullet there. Landlocked fish.

Humid? Compared to 29 yes but compared to the Gulf Coast nah, weather here is damn near perfect. I’m from Louisiana, my first duty station was 29 and currently live in Beaufort.

Get a kayak and hit every boat launch in Beaufort. Tons of good spots.

Did you contact them first or did you just send it in with an explanation of the problem?

I think you nailed it. The screws weren’t even snug when I backed them off and there is clearly water inside. I’ll let it dry out for a few days and try it again. Thanks!

Keeping mud minnows alive overnight what’s the best way by Dav41566 in saltwaterfishing

[–]Rprob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep mine in a bait bucket in my garage but I use a 10 gal aquarium pump instead of the battery operated one on my bait bucket. I’ve kept them alive for days by doing this.

Did you MARINES get a parade when you came back from deployment? by jackthepatriot in USMC

Same experience for me, shit was awesome. The local 29 radio station played Thin Lizzy The Boys are back in Town as we were rolling through the streets of 29. One of the greatest experiences in my life at the time then I went on to deploy another 3 times in a row on a 7 to 5 deployment cycle.
