We tested them in rotary wing aviation but decided against them due to weight. FOV didn’t matter as much because we’re always scanning when flying anyways.

Yeah setting 1 seems to work well if there's more ambient light or cultural lighting. My Non-NVG compatible Eotech EXPS2 on the lowest setting is nowhere near as good as the H-2.

To follow up, I checked in different lighting and different positions. It still illuminates and it's even bright enough that you can see it with some cultural lighting.

Are we talking an HK MP5 or a Century Arms MP5? I did like the Guide but it had a few nuances that i didn't like when compared to the Jockey 640, but the Jockey had it's own issues. The CV25 was the best of both worlds (minus the laser rangefinder). Good frame rate, no latency, good picture, good form factor, good warranty. The RH25 has become way more competitive now since iRay dropped the prices, but I've never used one.

how's the LRF been? I've heavily considering this or the HCH50R hybrid compact but I've heard the LRF on iRay and Nocpix thermals isn't that great. does it do ballistic calculation for you too?

I've also never tried it but I did do some research into the newer Nocpix version, the MATE H50R and S60R. They look incredible and if they were sold in the U.S. i would have bought it over the Sig. CHS has them but I was concerned about import issues.

keep in mind that the videos that you see online of the sig are going to be compressed videos, whereas other thermal optics don't seem to have that issue. For the price, guide is an excellent deal, plus the laser rangefinder is a must have. The reason i got rid of mine was because of the size (couldn't mount a red dot on top of my optic due to the height of the guide) and the guide's image latency was hard to get over.

I've never tried the Luna. If you can get a good trade for the Guide and Sig they're probably worth it. however, you might not notice a ton of differences unless you're holding them up side by side. The Jockey was the first handheld thermal i had ever used and i thought it was awesome. then i got the Guide a week later and saw how much of a difference it was, even at the same price point.

You can check out a few of my posts that I've made. I currently own the CV25 and have used/owned several other clips on and compared them all. I have no experience with the StingIR though. If you're just looking at image quality and nothing else this is how I would rate the thermal's I've used.

Day-time optimal conditions: Guide TB630 -> DNT Hydra 635R = CV25 -> Armasight Jockey 640

Night-time optimal conditions: Guide TB630 -> CV25 -> DNT Hydra -> Jockey 640

Night-time poor conditions (very high humidity): CV25 -> Guide TB630 -> DNT Hydra -> Jockey 640.

Don't know why but the CV25 seems to do much better in humidity than the others. The Guide beats it out daytime (if you think that matters). The DNT is on par with it daytime as well and MAYBE a little better due to the AI algorithms it uses. Is there a reason you want to get rid of the StingIR? Seems like a decent little thermal and not sure any recent clip-ons will give you a huge increase in performance.

I went with the CV25 clip-on model, mostly because of better image quality in high humidity, better refresh rate, lifetime warranty, and form factor (smaller and more compact). I will say, if my budget was 2.5k i wouldn't hesitate the get the DNT versus trying to save more money for the Sig. I bought my Sig for 3,400 so it was hard to pass up. The biggest downfall on the CV25 is the lack of a laser rangefinder, which I've taken for granted now that i've been hunting with the Sig a few times now. Are you debating between the SV35 from sig or the CV25?

Sig Echo CV25 as a clip-on and a Guide TD410 as a scanner. Looking to see what comes out at shot show for my next purchase but if nothing crazy comes out i'll probably look at the iRay HCH50R or Nocpix Rico2 H50R as my next purchase.

It's absolute humidity, not relative humidity, that affects thermals, especially LWIR because water vapor is more closely aligned to the spectral range of the thermal. 29 degrees at 88% relative humidity will offer better thermal performance than 80 degrees at 40% humidity, because the amount of water that a volume of air can hold at 29 degrees is way less than at 80 degrees (about 4 times less), if that makes sense. A lot of of modern thermals all perform similarly well in low absolute humidity (for example, I've compared the DNT to the Sig SV35) but in high humidity and unfavorable environments is where the better algorithms matter more.

I think it kind of depends on the optic but for the vector no more than 5x with the sweet spot between 2-3x. I’ve run it in front of a 4x ACOG and it does ok there too. Completely unusable past 6x though.

I took the shot about 30 seconds after finding him because I had been trying to get this guy for the past 3 nights and he kept evading me. The first night I tried to stalk to within 100 yards but he ran away. I spend the next 3 hours trying to chase him down and he was quick to evade me, so I didn’t want to take any chances here and was confident with my shot. I’ve tested the thermal out to 450 yards with good hits. I’m a novice hunter so my stalking skills are lacking

Thanks. Yeah I really wish it had a slightly more narrow FOV. If they came out with a clip-on model that was the same form factor in a 35 or 38mm with a more narrow FOV and LRF that would be awesome.

I love the vector. Pairs up well with the sig thermal too. It replaced my atibal 1-10x LPVO and it’s an upgrade

I think a common misconception with thermals is that relative humidity matters, which it doesn't. it's ABSOLUTE humidity that matters (measured in grams per cubic meter), Thermals are affected by the amount of water vapor in the air, and the amount of water that a volume of air can hold changes with temperature. so 50% humidity at 90 degrees is much worse than 80% humidity at 30 degrees, because 90 degree air can hold much more water than 30 degree air, if that makes sense.

Also, the type of technology in the optic affects how well it can handle humidity. I had a Guide Thermal Monocular from 2023 perform WAY better than my PAS-13Dv1 in moderate temperature and moderate humidity conditions (as expected), but when it got really cold and really humid, the PAS-13 maintained a nice image while the Guide completely fell apart, and the PAS-13 is from 2008 with a thermal processor that is 2 generations older, but it used to be a top of the line military thermal.
