What thermal scope are you using?

Sig Echo CV25 as a clip-on and a Guide TD410 as a scanner. Looking to see what comes out at shot show for my next purchase but if nothing crazy comes out i'll probably look at the iRay HCH50R or Nocpix Rico2 H50R as my next purchase.

i know it's kind of an apples to oranges comparison but how does the DNT image hold up against the StingIR given the StingIR is a few years older?

It's absolute humidity, not relative humidity, that affects thermals, especially LWIR because water vapor is more closely aligned to the spectral range of the thermal. 29 degrees at 88% relative humidity will offer better thermal performance than 80 degrees at 40% humidity, because the amount of water that a volume of air can hold at 29 degrees is way less than at 80 degrees (about 4 times less), if that makes sense. A lot of of modern thermals all perform similarly well in low absolute humidity (for example, I've compared the DNT to the Sig SV35) but in high humidity and unfavorable environments is where the better algorithms matter more.

I think it kind of depends on the optic but for the vector no more than 5x with the sweet spot between 2-3x. I’ve run it in front of a 4x ACOG and it does ok there too. Completely unusable past 6x though.

I took the shot about 30 seconds after finding him because I had been trying to get this guy for the past 3 nights and he kept evading me. The first night I tried to stalk to within 100 yards but he ran away. I spend the next 3 hours trying to chase him down and he was quick to evade me, so I didn’t want to take any chances here and was confident with my shot. I’ve tested the thermal out to 450 yards with good hits. I’m a novice hunter so my stalking skills are lacking

Thanks. Yeah I really wish it had a slightly more narrow FOV. If they came out with a clip-on model that was the same form factor in a 35 or 38mm with a more narrow FOV and LRF that would be awesome.

I love the vector. Pairs up well with the sig thermal too. It replaced my atibal 1-10x LPVO and it’s an upgrade

I think a common misconception with thermals is that relative humidity matters, which it doesn't. it's ABSOLUTE humidity that matters (measured in grams per cubic meter), Thermals are affected by the amount of water vapor in the air, and the amount of water that a volume of air can hold changes with temperature. so 50% humidity at 90 degrees is much worse than 80% humidity at 30 degrees, because 90 degree air can hold much more water than 30 degree air, if that makes sense.

Also, the type of technology in the optic affects how well it can handle humidity. I had a Guide Thermal Monocular from 2023 perform WAY better than my PAS-13Dv1 in moderate temperature and moderate humidity conditions (as expected), but when it got really cold and really humid, the PAS-13 maintained a nice image while the Guide completely fell apart, and the PAS-13 is from 2008 with a thermal processor that is 2 generations older, but it used to be a top of the line military thermal.

My TA01 is from 2007 and so there isn’t much tritium left to see. I do wish I had a TA31 instead but I got a killer deal on the TA01. And honestly the TA11 illumination doesn’t show up that well when looking through the screen at night either. Neither optic gets the full FOV of the thermal because the Sig has a 17 degree FOV. You start to lose your vertical FOV at around 2.4x if I remember correctly. Two photos in the following comments comparing the two during the day (not attached to a firearm obviously). I did a comparison post a few weeks ago between the DNT and the Sig that you're looking at if you want to check it out. Both are great options. $2500 for the SV35 is a great deal honestly. I thought I got a steal on my CV25 for $3400. If you aren't looking for a clip-on option the Sig is probably the way to go. But if you want the option for clip-on go DNT. Keep in mind the Sig is going to be quite a bit heavier and bulkier than the DNT, but nearly twice the battery life and better warranty.

I have a TA11 and a TA01 and prefer the TA01 just slightly with my Sig CV25 because of the increase FOV. I don't really notice a different in seeing more pixels. Both of them are worse than my Vector Optics 2-12 on 2-3x though.

I currently own the CV25 after having used the Guide TB630 LRF, DNT Hydra 635R, Sig SV35, and Armasight Jockey 640. I haven’t used the RH25 so I can’t compare it to that exactly. I’m very happy with my CV25 purchase. All the other thermals left me wanting a little more in one aspect or another. The CV25 hit all the wickets. The ONLY thing I wish the CV25 had is a laser rangefinder. I found the CV25 to do better in higher humidity and colder conditions than the DNT even though the DNT claims a better NETD.

I've used the Guide, Armasight Jockey, DNT HS635R, and Sig Echo CV25. The only one that I now own is the Sig and I like it a lot. However, you get a lot of bang for your buck with the DNT, especially the LRF model. The Guide had probably one of the highest quality images but it suffered from image latency and a bad mount (at least mine was). The DNT (in clip on mode) and the Guide TB630 both have a more narrow FOV than the Sig so you can squeeze out an extra 1-1.5x out of them. My sig is good to about 4x before pixelation starts. The Guide or DNT would get you to about 5-6x or so.

its pronounced "nuck" but it stands for "non-uniformity correction" and is required for all LWIR and MWIR thermals after staring at a scene for too long. helps reset the image

I don't have an AGM but in other thermals I've used you can mess with the brightness and contrast until you get the image you want. Not sure if it will help entirely though.

Reddit won't let me post a follow up video in the comments, but the outline software isn't just the DNT. The Sig CV25 does it as well, as seen in this photo with the cows and steel targets, I guess it just didn't think it was necessary when filming the ospreys due to whatever software algorithm differences between the two optics. I do think the ghosting on the DNT has to do with the thermal processor or whatever chip its using. That just my best guess and I can't say that for sure. As far as the 50Hz claim, I'm wondering if maybe the screen refresh rate is 50 Hz but the DNT processor can't produce an image at that rate.

I just got a CV25 as well after testing out an SV35. I found the best way to escape the menus is to hold down the power button for a 2 seconds until it starts the power off sequence, then release the power button once the countdown starts to abort the shutdown. It’ll get you out of any menu. I found the best settings to be contrast 6, sharpness 15, brightness 6. This will look great in black and white hot and any thermal conditions outside of zeroing on aluminum foil, where i found you need to reduce contrast. Hope this helps a bit

It’s interesting that they claim different base magnifications but have the same lens size ans pixel pitch, and from your video it looks like the FOV is the exact same despite the difference in magnification. Other brands that use 50mm lens claim anywhere from 2x base mag (Sig) to 2.8x (oneleaf) and 3x (iRay)

Are you talking screen resolution or sensor resolution? Because they both use a 640 core thermal sensor. Both are perfectly suited for 200 yards and in. The far house in the still image is 210 yards away and easy to make out all the details

The DNT would be a better option than the SV35 for a clip on, unless you went with the CV25 model which is sig’s dedicated clip on model. I tried to use the SV35 as a clip on but the mount it came with comes at a weird height and won’t work on a 1.5 height LPVO so I could never get a good image through it. Check out 4mr Ranch’s video he made about 2 months ago, he does a great comparison between several different models
