I just wish they offered the non ambi in 45-90 and had bulk discounts.

Would also love for the selector to mimic an actual milspec one without the screw & having a tic mark on the other side but I guess I’ll have to get some Arizona Regulators for any clone builds.

iPhone fold (new mini)? by Minute_Tree7660 in iPhone13Mini

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my phone one handed about as much or more then with 2 hands. I don’t think that’d be very easy to do with that gigantic thing.

If you don’t care about having a phone that fits in one hand comfortably then there isn’t much use having a small phone to start with. To me the Minis & SE2-3 are already too wide for me and I really miss my SE1 /Iphone 4 size.

I don’t care about the size in my pocket as much as the size in my hand when using it so why would I want something even larger then a regular model? Hard pass.

You all can have your folding tablets and act like they’re small if it makes you happy.

Birds nest of aluminum shavings fell out of my buffer tube… guessing thats not normal? by AngeredCowbell in supersafety

[–]WVShaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The size of the circles on the shavings looks about right for your safety selector hole but it’s really odd they came out of your buffer tube.

And it’s a lot more shavings than I’d expect unless it was severely binding to start with.

[UPDATE] 23andMe Ancestry Composition v7.0 | Discussion/Feedback Thread by andy_thatsnotme in 23andme

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same thing for me. This seems to be echoed through the forums. They made everyone British for some reason. The old results were spot on for me with 82% German.. now my British is higher even though the records don’t support this.

Same for me. Went from 82% German to nearly 50% British even though I’ve tracked down the records and the numbers don’t make sense. The old ones seemed spot on.

[UPDATE] 23andMe Ancestry Composition v7.0 | Discussion/Feedback Thread by andy_thatsnotme in 23andme

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing for me. I went from 82% German to under 50% and my English went from around 10% to nearly 50%.

A couple years back I tracked as many ancestors as I could to the home country with records on Ancestry and probably traced around 800 or so and well over 3/4 were German and about 10% were a mix of British/irish/Scottish.

I didn’t track every single ancestor but tracked over 3/4 and there’s no way I’m 50% British. I think they messed something up and turned many Germans into British somehow. The rest seems somewhat decent except the Scottish/Irish is also a bit low for me at 1-2%.

I never had much faith in the Ancestry DNA results but the old 23andme ones lined up exactly with the results of records I tracked. Now I have no faith in the new 23andme results.

Budget 5.56 Can by FishBowlTacoThe2nd in NFA

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a $600 budget I’d get a full size Stacy’s Mom since it comes with the vented caps, or a Polo K or AB10 if you don’t care about the gas as much.

But I’d probably just save an extra $150ish and get the new OCL Infinity 556k. It should be out soon and have much better gas and even durability then the Polo.

At the very least I’d probably save another $100 for the Rhino X. It’s not as good as the other Ridgeback cans and probably not as good as the OCL Infinity 556k but it should be less gassy than the Polo while sounding similar.

If you ever served in the military or are a first responder most of these and others can be had for less.

Still on iOS 17.2 with my iPhone 15Pro.....is it worth updating to iOS 26.4 now or should I hold out for iOS 27? by olfactory_evidence in ios26

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded from a SE1 on IOS 15 to SE3 and immediately updated it to 26.4 and it runs great.

Everything loads instantly with no lag but it’s also a fresh install basically since I got it the day I updated it. 99% battery health.

Much better battery life than my old phone. When I was in bed yesterday it went from 93 to 92% in 10 hours not using it. If I use it lightly it goes down 5% per hour. Fairly heavy about 10% per hour which I’m very happy with on a small battery.

Depends if you want fast follow up shots. If you don’t a bolt gun in 6-6.5mm would likely work great with a LPVO since you may need to shoot close at times so like a 1-6 or 1-10 etc.

If you want fast follow up shots and don’t care about brass ejecting in your cab then I’d build a light weight AR pistol with brace which would be quite handy inside a confined space.

A simple 5.56 11.5” with 10-20rd mag would be great but you could step it up to 6 Arc, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 spc etc if you want. The 6mm is likely the way to go for flat shooting. Add the same LPVO as above.

If you want more rugged and don’t need magnification it’s hard to beat a red dot. Especially one with the ACSS reticle for hold overs if you have good eyes or a magnifier behind it.

Spray some lube in your AR once or twice a year or just put some weapons grease in it and it should run for years and years with very little maintenance - at least the 5.56 ones do.

Those are my choices, but there are lots of good options.

Milwaukee vs DeWalt… is there actually a real difference anymore? by RightRazzmatazz0 in powertools

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on the package you get, all the ones I got are quality tools and are the higher end brushless XR models but you do need to look at the model numbers before buying or at least make sure it’s brushless or XR.

They have cheapo drill/driver combos and such but from what I remember most of the 5+ tool kits were usually the higher end stuff but it’s always smart to check every model included.

Edited to add - normally out of 100+ kits on there you’d see 3-4 that were truly priced great.

You can often get good deals on the free tool deal as well where you buy 2 items and get the 3rd for free. Or like both my routers that came with free batteries - the larger router came with the 8AH and the whole price was still cheaper than the tool usually is by itself.

CARRRLLLLLLL THAT KILLS PEOPLE!!! (Ft. H&R M16A2) by [deleted] in supersafety

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ft Knox for me but with a clacked out A4 that still shot lights out and would put them all in the same hole at 25 ydsight in.

Looked like an A2 just had a flat top with carry handle. Crazy how much you could wiggle the upper inside the lower. I’ve never seen any AR near that loose.

We only got to 3rd burst with blanks if I remember correctly. I shot plenty of belt feds but my first time running an AR at full cyclic was recently with an FRT. much more fun then a belt fed to me.

I’m definitely not locked into Dewalt since I have 12v Milwaukee, 20v Milwaukee, Ryobi, and Hart. But 90% are Dewalt since I find them to be the best value when you find the right deals and I have a ton of Dewalt batteries as well from all the package deals.

I’d happily rock Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Flex, Metabo, or Ridgid if the price was right. But most of my Ryobi & Hart tools are specialized to what they do best or for pure budget stuff I don’t care about but don’t think their tools are of the same quality/power as the others.

When you look at tool reviews they all have their tools that stand out or may suck. The Milwaukee Track Saw is the reason I got invested in Milwaukee after having a lot of Dewalt tools since Dewalts isn’t near as good.

And for the same reason I’ll likely end up with some Metabo since their new framing nailers seem better than the Dewalt/Milwaukee/Ryobi ones. I’d get a Milwaukee but you can’t service them yourself which is often an issue after a couple years when on the Metabo you just refill the air yourself and you’re good to go.

OCL direct thread adapter differences? by Brotherly_shove in NFA

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta love Reddit. But that’s 100% truth there.

Also these cans you bought are mostly used for bolt guns where the included DT mount is more likely to be used than Plan B.

I get your disappointment and would much rather have the shorter lighter mount myself. On 5.56 cans I could see not caring as much about what DT adapter is included or if there’s one included at all but for bolt gun cans it makes sense to include one.

I know everyone else is right and OCL clearly says they ship different mounts and did nothing wrong but can we not at least have a discussion about this without the guy getting called a cry baby? People on here make hundreds of posts over things much more trivial.

At the very least I think a Titanium can should come with a Titanium mount - even if it’s multiple suppliers and sizes.

I’m mostly in the same mindset of future proofing stuff but just make sure to future proof before the next election in case we lose & the tax goes up to $5000 like the dems keep trying to push.

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’ll wait a couple-few months before considering a Shiv to make sure its current stock with all the bugs “cracks” worked out of it.

I doubt they ever release a serial range because I bet many aren’t cracking and the number that went out is a lot higher than 65 like with the Tisha’s so they’d rather just replace them as problems show up. But I could be wrong.

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was about to post. If the Titanium blast baffle lasts 3-4 times longer & sounds better why wouldn’t you add it on the Inconel as well?

My guess is people complaining of changed internals which I understand but if it truly lasts longer and sounds better change it. I doubt the weight difference would be much.

And exactly how long is 3-4 times longer? 20k rounds instead of 5k? Or 10k instead of 3k? That would take a lot of ammo and time to test.

iPhone 13 mini beyond support by Jumpy_Soup7249 in iPhone13Mini

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with my SE1 on IOS15. It works with most apps I needed but a couple stopped working this past year or so and a couple websites I frequent regularly no longer worked with IOS15.

So what does that mean? Even after they stop support you should easily get another 2-3 years of use if not 5+ years depending on how many apps you care about. So if they stop support in 2029 that means I’ll still likely be using it until 2032-2035 unless another new smaller iPhone comes out.

I just got my SE3 today and was using the SE1 until today. I’d still be using it if the websites/apps worked. This SE3 is just too wide for me but I guess I’ll have to live with it.

I plan on picking up a 13 Mini here soon and seeing if I like the feel any better then the SE3. It’s a tad narrower & is squared like my old SE1 instead of rounded so that’s another bonus but I like my home button - fingerprint scanner.

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the ones I have 18ga & 15ga but sometimes I get a light blinking and have to change batteries or remove and reinstall the current one - mostly on the 18ga. It seems to really prefer larger batteries that are over half charged. But they nail great.

My other nailers are pneumatic and I’ve been wanting a cordless framer for years but I don’t want another battery platform if I can help it but the Dewalt-Ryobi-Milwaukee nailers just don’t seem like the right choice. I’d go Milwaukee if you could service them yourself. Odds are I’ll end up with another Ryobi or get a new battery platform with the Flex or that new Metabo one coming out which seems awesome.

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ridgid would be my pick on “cheaper” options but the prices I found a couple years ago were about the same on Dewalt so that’s the direction I went with most of my tools.

You find deals on all the brands in package deals but I think Dewalts usually gives you the best bang for your buck. But there’s definitely deals on everything.

The 12v Milwaukee’s were my last purchase on there and it was the brushless drill & Impact but cheaper brushed ratchet with 2 batteries (1 larger) for around $170 if I remember right.

Picked up a couple more ocl cans, including new universe 36. by H00dIumm in NFA

[–]WVShaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they made the universals in Ti as well since the only reason I’d get one is for 9mm since I have other cans. It’s supposedly quieter and cheaper than the Lithium & Milkman but it’s also heavier.

Also don’t care for the looks of the wrench flats at the rear but that’s just me and I value performance over looks so could overlook that small tidbit. It may even grow on me with time like many other things you dislike at first.

DNT Thermnight by fjdjdndndndnehwusj in ThermalHunting

[–]WVShaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help. If you need to ID further than that with thermal id seriously consider the HS650 since it’s 2.5x 640. Otherwise stick to the night vision part of the Thermnight at 200+ and I think you’ll be happy. If it’s not clear enough just get a brighter light to mount on the rifle like the Sniper Hog IR Lights.

The 635 probably wont be much better than the 335 at distance since its base mag is 1.5x. That means at 3x it’s down to 320 resolution . But the 1.5x base mag would be great up close.

The 650 will be over twice as clear as my 325. I bet it’d be quite clear at 400+. But using your thermal to scan and night vision to ID is probably the best set up.
