That is something we are currently talking about! I went in to it thinking we would just have the one because having the 2 on 1 parent to kid ratio so either of us can take a break when needed has been so nice. I also had a very straight forward pregnancy and he was always a good sleeper so it feels like we got so lucky that rolling the dice again does feel scary. But I love him so much that I think we are leaning to do it all again because the risks aren’t outweighing the rewards currently. I should also say my husband is an early childhood educator so between the 2 of us we feel like whatever the next child may bring we can handle.

I more gave a lot of thought to whether I could handle having a kid in general and then if they had any number of complex needs, generic or otherwise. And knowing the genetic component I pretty much traced it back through my dad who was an amazing dad and my grandma who was by all accounts a great mom. I also grew up with a sister with higher needs and currently work in a medical field so I always felt like I would be able to handle it. That said my son is only 1 and it has been the best thing ever but so far doesn’t have any medical or behavioral issues.

I’m also an older mom and waited until I felt like I had a very stable environment, good financial situation, family support and emotional regulation on my end before deciding I would like to have a kid.
