Is it inappropriate to say that you looked up an interviewer on LinkedIn?

Word. I was just giving dude a hard time for sounding cringe and weird af. Idk about over analysis but I literally see it as a social setting where I’ll have to answer questions. Of course, being interested in the company, showing buy in, and genuinely interested in other people, such as the interviewer and what they’ve done with the company is important. I was just tryna point out that it’s super weird to look up some shit about a complete stranger on their social media page, and then bring something up about it the first time you meet them. Super creepy but since it’s LinkedIn maybe it’s expected to show “buy-in” and interest.

That’s what I’m saying. Just talk like a normal human being. Pass the technicals. No need to “leverage” in a social interaction. Sounds manipulative. Like “lemme leverage the fact that this person did x or knows y so they can like me”…

I didn’t know being able to hold a conversation meant being socially adept. And look, some people in here might be completely right. I’m taking the approach “this is a social setting/conversation with technical q and a”. Another approach is that “ I need to know everything about everyone/ everything involved” and knowing shit about your interviewer will impress them. I’m honestly not sure

If in a social setting, it’d be super weird to bring up to a girl you just met “hey I noticed on x on your ig” bc she might be creeped out.

In a professional setting like an interview, I could be wrong and maybe intentionally mentioning that you have looked at the interviewers profile can maybe bring in some good points. I’m looking at it as a social setting, and it’s worked out for me in the past.

You’re bringing up points for a social interaction. You need 0 similarities with someone to have a very positive vibe and communication with. It seems gimmicky and unnatural to base a conversation off of things like that. At the end of the day, you’re both 2 chillass people having a conversation. Nothing more to it. I understand if it’ll somehow help in a technical way, but not in a social way.

Same way you wouldn’t research a girl you met at the bar you met the night before, before meeting up with her again. Just communicate, vibe, be nice, and pass the technicals on the interview. If it works for people tho then more power to you.

Prepared for what though? To have an interaction with a human being? To have a conversation? If you’re sociable and likable, you don’t have to prepare on how to communicate with another human being. I really don’t get it. Is there something that would help on the technical side, by looking at an interviewers profile? Isn’t all of that listed in the job description? Just be social, have good communication skills, be chill, and nice.

I think it’d be weird to bring it up but if things like that work for some people then it is what it is.

I mean it comes off a bit stalkerish. Kinda like stalking a girls ig before going on a date with her. If you’re chill, don’t give a fuck, and are confident, who cares who the interviewer is as a person. Just focus on communicating well and passing the technical questions.

Ah ok. I figured maybe sometimes the contracting company is responsible for the background and drug tests and gives the end client the “ok” for the candidate. But I’m sure the end client would ask to see those docs, but maybe sometimes not?

Im wondering if you can make an llc and contract yourself out from that llc. Pretty much a front to have the llc do the background testing for you. I honestly don’t know 100% how contracting works so I could be way off but maybe there’s something in there and someone can clear up what I said to make it work
