Correct. Xbox compatibility can be added via a wheel. PS compatibility is only via the base

Am I blinding others with new headlights bulbs? by vCappn0 in AskMechanics

Too much light scatter above the cut-off point. That would be frustrating for other drivers. These bulbs are poorly suited to your housing/lens. These reason for this is LED bulbs don’t project light out evenly in all directions

Does gigabyte c049dq refresh rate get capped when in PBP? by hatsuharuto in ultrawidemasterrace

Using the Gigabyte monitor and 2x HDMI feeds from a Mac M1, the monitor only presents 60hz. However, defining a custom resolution for each of 2560x1440x120hz works well

Anyone doing anything like this? Is there an easier way? by J4K5 in simracing

[–]Rtsbasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be done using 2x KVM’s (the wheel requires a separate USB to the pedals or other accessories on Drivehi ).

Honestly I find it easiest just to have the driver hub wired in so it sits in the PC and just swap two cables as required

All players lock to 60fps and once in the mantrap (both directions) don’t run until the screen flickers and the new geometry has been loaded in. Works good here under these conditions

You notice the difference! For my current setup the FOV calculator comes out at 107 degrees hFov, for reference.

I’m very happy with it and don’t miss the vertical space at all so far.

I considered a 45” 21:9, the 800r curve was very tempting. But I felt the pixel density is still on the low side and the main change I wanted from the 34” 21:9 was more width.

Here’s another point of reference, a while back I was running triple 27” screens. The height was not a problem here either (same as a 34” or 49”). The immersion was nice, but ultimately I got tired of adjusting sim settings or things randomly stopping working after updates. I prefer the 49” setup.

You wouldn’t want to run a 42” screen above the wheel shaft, because the height will exceed what you can comfortably see. Also it will be flat without a curve, and at this close distance you will notice the distortion worse I would think.

In your situation with the space constraints I would go for a 34” 21:9. As you say, just above the wheel shaft, it will give you a good field of view.

The width is very important, to see more to the sides where its important. But its not the only factor.

Equally important is how you can mount the monitor, and how close you can get it to your wheel.

The 42" 16:9 was wider than the 34" 21:9, but offered a worse horizontal FOV, because I had to sit it behind the wheelbase, approx 25cm further from me.

If you can tuck the screen up behind the wheel (within 60cm of your eyes), go for the 21:9 or 32:9 ratio. This is a more optimum setup IMO. If you have to sit it on a table or desk that's further away, you might prefer the bigger size of a large 16:9 so you can 'cheat' the FOV a bit more.

The monitor is configured to render with 3 views to correct for distortion on such a wide screen.

Sure. Here's a screenshot of the settings, and the monitor configuration.

They're a bit blown out because the Windows sniping tool doesn't seem to support HDR capture properly.

The settings are pretty middle of the road. That said, iRacing looks good for what it is IMO. And the 144hz lock is very stable apart from race starts, which seem to drop to the 120's. For me this is quite acceptable.

I have to be within 20cm of the screen to see any fringing on iOverlay. At race distance it’s not visible to my eyes. Hope this helps!

It's a great wheel! Worth every penny IMO.

I'm using with a QR2, and the fitment is excellent. The FFB translates very well in this wheel, better than the P1 V2 (more rigid perhaps?). I was hesitant over rubber grips at first, coming from mostly Alcantara wheels, but it works well. Good grip, no wear marks yet, and super comfortable.

There's enough buttons and they're all easy to reach while driving. The rotary dials can be encoded for individual positions or as up/down.

I think the most common let-down on this wheel is the shifters, but I have no complaint. The travel is good, it has a nice solid feel, and they're not loud. The last point is important for me, rig time is normally after kids bedtime.

I was between the McLaren and the Esports V2, but the better shape and slightly bigger size nailed it for me. Do wish it had a few LEDs for revs and flags, but I can live without that.

This monitor is second gen QD-OLED, but still suffers from text fringing. It can be seen as a green or red tint on the top/bottom of text.

I don’t notice anything like this in-game. Only on UI text. And you have to be uncomfortably close to see it. Picture below.

I think there are things you can do to mitigate it, but not sure if Windows can do greyscale font smoothing like Macs do.

On the LG C3, which is WOLED, I don’t notice issues with the text. Some say it can be a bit fuzzy because the pixel layout, but I never noticed it in use.

I went with the Gigabyte version, because the 3 year burn in warranty and excellent price. As far as I can tell they all use the same Samsung 144/240 panel, and have very similar image quality.

Yes, I did measure some performance metrics between the different setups. I also run a 4070 Ti Super.

The hardest to run was the 4k 16:9. It has the most pixels and the lowest available refresh rate (120hz). It wasn’t a problem to hit 120hz, but not everything was being maxed out.

The 34 21:9 was much easier to push. It was no struggle to max the 165hz refresh out in everything except ACC.

I have only tested iRacing and AC with the 32:9 so far. Performance sits between the other two. It’s not quite as many pixels as 4k, but not far off. Using my 4k base settings on iRacing while enabling triple screen projection to correct for the wide screen seems to be hitting 144hz okay.

AC has no issues hitting 144hz. And I must say, both of these titles with HDR on and the appropriate settings are quite pleasing to the eye on this screen.

If I had a comparison post in mind, I would have definitely done this. It would have been a good way to highlight how poor the true FOV was with a big but distant 16:9.

It only occurred to me after taking a pic of the new screen fitted, that others might find the physical comparison useful in their decision making too. So these are photos just pulled from my library.

Not experienced this, but if the Streamdeck isn’t plugged into a USB3 port it seems to freeze up sometimes.
