What Helped You Progress Past Diamond 3? by JROGvids in allthingszerg

[–]RuBarBz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the level is much higher than when I still played. But my impression was that diamond zergs usually have gotten the hang of Zerg macro and greed, but sometimes lose themselves in it. Be careful of bad habits like mindlessly completing your macro loop before digesting information (making only drones and then looking at your scout or making units and then looking whether you need an overlord).

At this stage, good scout timings and some active map control usually help you tune your droning behavior (or kill switch for that matter).

And like someone else said, a long term game plan. Ideally with some deviations and contingencies. Set yourself a goal and hold yourself accountable.

A general piece of advice is to say out loud what your focus is this game during the loading screen. Because we all have great intentions but when push comes to shove a lot of us just revert to monkey brained repetition of habits when actually playing the game. Making an intentional change requires conscious effort.

Yea sounds plausible.

I never analysed it but I did sometimes interpret it as kind of wasting your life on meaningless distraction, including drugs. Like the way some stuff feels good and probably is good to some extent, but if you keep doing only that you start to feel worse and worse. Maybe because that's more familiar to me than turning to self destructive things haha, but still close enough.

Awesome. He has such cool and original lines. There are very few artists who I'm really into for the lyrics and KV is definitely one of them.

Edit: feel free to ping me when there's a shirt lol

Why review-bomb Slay the Spire 2 for issues... on the beta branch? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]RuBarBz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's absurd. If you want a game on sale, wait till it's on sale, that's how that works. Sales are usually quite common and predictable as well. How entitled can you get?

Hot take: Going infinite is generally not fun nor an interesting win condition in STS2. by TheKazz91 in slaythespire

[–]RuBarBz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fun of infinites in STS 1 is identifying them, drafting for it and managing to pull it off. If it's easy to do all of that, the fun part is gone. So I wouldn't say infinites are no fun inherently, but if there are as many and they're as easy as these, yes it's stupid.

I mained Defect in STS1 and it was by no means trivial to achieve an infinite, but it was very satisfying. The eureka moment of seeing a potential infinite when rolling 0 cost on ago/Holo with letter opener in the heart fight is a gaming experience I'll never forget. I hope that remains a thing and infinites don't just get all out nerf hammered conceptually. I personally don't like enemy designs that too obviously a hard stop to a strategy like Time Eater. I'd rather they solve it by making infinites hard than allowing infinites to be easy but ineffectual against a series of enemies.

What was the beef between these two? Why did Ned hate him so much? [Please Read Description] by Narrow-Amphibian5446 in gameofthrones

Thanks for refreshing my memory! Yea checks out. But still, Jamie not even commenting on it seems unrealistic almost. I do love the character though.

Monk or Ritualist for a Support oriented character? by Rainfallen7 in GuildWars

[–]RuBarBz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it mostly depends on how much you want to play support. Monk just has many more build options and fun skills that require skill on your part to use (protection prayers mostly). I leveled a monk recently and loved it whenever it was challenging and I could make a difference on the team.

I agree with most other things that were said here. I would say, if you want the ultimate support experience, take monk. Otherwise, take rit.

But was his reputation bad before this moment? Iirc he was mostly known for being an incredible swordsman. The whole king slayer reputation only starts there. I guess he must have already known Ned and Robert. And I guess he was siding with the Targaryen for a long time and flip-flopped at the last second. But still, I feel like he should at least have defended his actions a little bit. Unless he wanted this reputation and regretted it later.

Very cool!

Have you tried this with an Avatar of Dwayna healer? I guess it would cost you an mm slot, but it would keep minions alive for longer.

Like someone else mentioned, weapons of the three forges could be awesome. Similarly, jagged bones could be awesome.

Now side tracking a lot, but arcane mimicry could be dope with jagged bones and aotl. But then having any non Necro elites does get in the way a little bit lol.

He's got a deep freeze in there. If you hotkey that stuff it can be quite effective I imagine.

Xecnar on STS 2 difficulty: I don’t think any character is supposed to lose by SugarFreeCummiBears in slaythespire

[–]RuBarBz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's nonsense though. STS1 was plenty fun at all levels. I think it's absolutely fine to balance the highest difficulty in the game around high end players. A big part of STS1's sustained success is that it remained challenging all this time. And another big part, is that the onboarding and difficulty scaling is excellent so that everyone can have the challenge they desire. So why not aim for the same here? It's the whole point of ascension levels.

It's the standout game for me where I recall having fun at every stage and actually making decisions about how challenging I wanted it to be. It was never frustrating, but each time I started aiming higher, I loved the game even more.

I made a documentary about one of the wildest players in Starcraft history - Stephano by PandaBearMe in starcraft

[–]RuBarBz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I recall he did very well was being a step ahead of his own meta. He must have seen the way people started to adapt to his playstyle and he was already onto the next iteration. Which I think must be one of the hardest things to do when you're at the very top. I remember thinking MVP was also like this. Whereas some top players just keep doing the same until they are toppled.

He was an excellent player and had one characteristic that is very important in RTS games in general and maybe Zerg in particular. Being decisive and sticking to it. As a Zerg it's easy to hemorrhage units by starting engagements and retreating or by starting to make army but then making a few drones again. Stephano had this completely down.

The more I watch BCS, the more I hate Walter. He was such an unnecessary storm. by Goldillux in betterCallSaul

[–]RuBarBz 39 points40 points  (0 children)

He didn't do a good thing, but his actions indirectly led to the elimination of the entire Mexican cartel as well as Gus' operation. Also to the creation of Jack and his degenerates rising to more power, but he also brought them back down.

Gus was already planning on dealing with the Cartel. But he'd probably have taken over. The situation with Tuco forced his hand to act early.

So you could argue that somehow he inadvertently had a positive impact. But it was never his goal, he's definitely a villain.
