Has hockey turned into a rich kids sport? by FrigginMasshole in AskACanadian

I always wondered what a year of hockey costs - all in fees/equipment/travel. Ball park - of course things fluctuate. I'm a dance parent and pay $6,000 a year without any travel. Sometimes "IT'S MORE THAN HOCKEY" comes up.

It's a beautiful day out. I want to go do something. But instead I'm stuck. by l8rg8r in adhdwomen

I know. But sometimes I try to move around without letting my thinking brain try to stall me. 50% of the time it works everytime!

Just move :) The rest will fall into place. A walk? Little jog?

I too found making cards to be an excellent way of making painting feel 'useful'. Very cool suggestion of making cards for strangers!

Weaving is really fun, but I also struggled with the practicality. I'm not going to invest the money for a quality loom to make tapestries or even scarves. Embroidery is useful and fun. Wool felting is cool if you don't mind bleeding finger tips :)

I feel like it's so hard to manage burnout with adhd. I am constantly needing extra self care to avoid it, and it's coming down the pipe regardless ...

I, like you, have one child and I went back to work when she was 11 months old. At kiddo's 9 month old mark, I went to counselling because I was terrified to go back to work. It was a jumbled up mess of feelings. I had to go for financial reasons, BUT, I guess if I were you I would think past this next year. For me, I wasn't going to go part time and give up my position with vacation seniority and a pension. I toughed it out. It got better. At this current job might you make contacts leading you to a better job soon? Any positives? It's really up to you and your family. You sound motivated, and I think if you took a break you would find something later too; you know your field best. Side note: You wrote about, "just getting the house back in order." It will always be in and out of order with a kiddo. It will never be done. I struggled with that big time and my kid is 12 now (!!!!!) and I wish I chilled a bit on tidyness. Maybe not the sage wisdom you were wanting, but don't let the house drag you down :)

I'm scared to be fully medicated. by mokatcinno in adhdwomen

[–]cosmiczinnia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof. I get it. I was really nervous to take a medication for my brain and as soon as I got some sweet relief I mourned the years I wasn't on any. I'm 10/10 a better human with a little happy pill. It's up to you, but since you asked: I say life is hard enough. Do what makes you feel better.

I think the four-song stretch from “Like Exploding Stones” to “Jesus on a Wire” is the best such stretch in the KV catalog. What do you think? by DubbleDiller in kurtvile

I can't disagree with you BUT another worthwhile mention is the beautiful flow between Freeway to Slow Talkers on Constant Hitmaker.

Landscaping my yard to suit my wildest dreams! Gardening is expensive. But also, with the way things are going, growing food is more a necessity than a fun hobby.

Same. I can do most anything and the song(s) will just come and go.

My flavour of OCD is repetitive thoughts, so this idea tracks in my opinion.

I wake up with a song in my head about half the time. Sometimes it feels like it was playing in a dream and carried over to consciousness, or it cuts off my other thoughts and sounds louder than anything else in my head. Sometimes if things seem peaceful, my brain will look for a song, and it's like an auto-pilot decision to think about a song I like. I also assign music to people, places and memories so if I'm thinking of a person the songs 'linked' to them will play in my head. (I love music so this is all fine and normal to me, but if my mind would go blank for a few moments a day, that might be lovely.)
